I was staying at the Acme, across from Bloomingdale's Home store in Chicago... on the third floor they had a very similar table for $3200. I was smitten. With a city view as a backdrop, that table would be an elegant, flexible choice. Back at my hotel, I googled 'expanding glass tables' and this one popped up on Great Offer Stock...for under $780! I was...skeptical. I was afraid it would lack grace. I was intimidated by putting it together. I don't like making significant purchases on the Internet. I was pleasantly surprised. I was able to assemble the table easily (add legs--no worries about the expansion mechanism--it's fully assembled.
I was not 100% pleased with the finishes, but only on close inspection. The casting on the matte metal undercarriage is not perfect, and there are some rougher places. If you are showcasing the table, a picky person might notice. If you are serving a lovely meal, the overall design will wow your family and guests. I am almost 6' tall and this table is a great height for me. The expansion will come in handy over the Holidays.
This table is such a statement that I didn't want fussy chairs. Try these: Modrest Welles Modern Black Leatherette Dining Chair (Two Sets of 2) They look great together.
