OK, so I committed a lot of due diligence in buying this coffee maker. I'm responsible for brewing coffee for myself and better half each and every morning, so I wanted a "nice" coffee maker with none of the cheesy clock/timer buttons that break, heating element that rusts out and burns the coffee, etc...
WITHOUT A DOUBT, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THE BUNN COFFEEMAKER BTX CARAFE MODEL ------ IF YOU KEEP A COUPLE THINGS IN MIND. I have gleaned this list based on various feedback comments, online research and, of course, my personal experience.
1. YOU MUST USE "BUNN" FILTERS ONLY!!! Theses are specifically made for use with Bunn coffee makers due to the nozzle pressure to have the coffee brew faster. These are available at Walmart for less than $2.00 for a pack of 100. So, if you're reading negative feedback on grinds in the coffee, that's why -- they are not using "BUNN" made coffee filters. Some people see this a negative thing, but Bunn has engineered what I believe, a coffee brewing system second to none. Everything must work together, like cogs in a machine. Therefore, I have no problem using these filters - inexpensive and, like I said easy to get -- Walmart, of all places.
2. YOU MUST KEEP THE COFFE POT/CARAFE CLEAN!!! At least on the inside of the pot. YOU MAY HAVE READ "THE POT LEAKS ALL OVER THE COUNTER, ETC". My personal experience -- it will leak, IF IT IS NOT CLEAN. In fact, that's how I know it's time to clean it! The top is a screw on top in the carafe, which seals nicely and securely, preventing leakage.
IF I NOTICE THE CARAFE LEAKING WHEN POURING--
A. I re-screw the lid on to ensure proper fit
B. I visually inspect the inside of the Carafe. If it is brownish, I CLEAN WITH WATER AND CAPFUL OF BLEACH. LET STAND AND SWOOSH THE WATER A LITTLE BIT AND VOILA -- the inside is sparkling clean again.
The 2 above solutions have solved the leaky problem 100% of the time. One of the things I love about this coffee maker is the fact that it does not leak.
3. NO TIMERS!!! The BTX will brew a full potful coffee in 3 minutes or less. So, again, keep a few things in mind.
A. No buttons, clocks, digital electronics gizmos means less will break. I welcome the less is more approach.
B. I prepare the coffee the night before I wake up. I empty the grinds, wash the filter holder out, replace with a clean GENUINE BUNN FILTER, put in 4-5 scoops of coffee, rinse the CARAFE thoroughly (unless a deeper cleaning is required, as per above). It is, basically ready to go for the next morning. OK, so no timers means that the next morning I simply add water to the coffee maker using a large cup that I have pre-measured to fill the water reservoir completely. That's it! 3 minutes later a full pot of coffee is good-to-go.
C. Repeat B daily.
4. THE COFFEE IS ***HOT***. PERIOD. there is no other way to put it. To brew a full pot of coffee in 3 minutes requires a reservoir full of preheated water, which this unit has behind the carafe. THOUGH I'VE BEEN USNG THE BTX A YEAR, I STILL GET AN OCCASIONAL "BURN" AND MY WIFE HAS AS WELL. Folks, there is no other way to put it. This is a trade off for a turbo fast brewing machine. I personally do not like hot coffee, some people do prefer hot coffee. In fact, just this morning, Wednesday July 31st 2013, I have added some ice to my coffee (which I brewed 2.5 hours ago and is just now tepid). So, use caution and attention when brewing, pouring and drinking the freshly brewed coffee. YES THE INSULATED CARAFE KEEPS THE COFFEE "HOT" (and I am not taking about "warm"), for HOURS!! crazy as it seems when I come from work, some 10-12 hours after brewing, I prepare the coffee maker for the next day (as per above) and I can see steam and feel the warmth from poured coffee!! CRAZY!! But, again, this a coffee brewing MACHINE.
In closing, I DO NOT WORK FOR BUNN!! I am just a pleased, actually, impressed customer with the BTX. It's nice to see quality, detail and style in a well-engineered product these days. I use the word "engineered" purposely, because this is a machine and should be used as such -- all parts must work together -- including, yes, using, ONLY BUNN FILTERS! And a CLEAN CARAFE!
I am so pleased overall with this unit I felt compelled to write this review 1 year after purchasing it.
Hope this helps all of those due-diligence, fact-checking, customer feedback-reviewing, multiple consumer site monitoring, bargain hunters out there who want ALL OF THE DETAILS (I even read the owners manuals PRIOR to purchasing a product) folks out there.
Keep the above points in mind and you will not be disappointed with this unit THE ONE AND ONLY TURBO COFFEE BREWING MACHINE BTX-B.
