We were very happy to see our pups (a large lab and a border collie) adjust to entering and exiting right away. Pretty much 5 stars all around; however, one needs to remember to pull and hold that top button out as you slide the security panel up or down over the opening; otherwise, it might scratch you door. It is a tight fit, but that's good, right...particularly for security purposes? After 3 weeks, it feels like a sturdy product that will last for quite awhile.
We have two cats that love to be outside but live inside. Now they can go in and out anytime they want to! Door was easy to install in existing sliding door. Looks great! Insulated, keeps cold out, installed in winter. Like the sliding, locking door at bottom to keep our cats in and any other critters out at night. Lots of light comes through the glass in top of door. Matches our existing sliding door perfectly. Very good quality for the cost.
I bought this large Plexidor on the reviews, looking for a well-made, bug/weather sealing dog door. One person's review (from Las Vegas) said they couldn't feel the hot/cold weather with it, which works for me when we go from 118 to 35 degrees.. However, just after installing it (end of November), and putting my hand up to the fizzy weather stripping, I CAN feel the colder air more than I thought I would be able to because of the review. This summer will be more of the determining factor. My dogs previously used a top-flap, home-made (out of a thicker rubber) door mat, in their dog house I had built. No problem with it. However, it has taken quit a bit of coaching, dog biscuits and then turkey lunch meat, to get them to push through this door as it's harder opening/closing due to the spring-loaded doors (a good thing, not a bad thing). I believe they do not like that the doors tend to hit their legs/hips when they are going through it and they go through pretty fast at this point). It HAS only been 2 days and they ARE starting to get the hang of it finally. My son's visiting one-yr-old pit puppy is actually doing the best (she's pretty fearless though). Surprising me, my neurotic female 4-yr-old pit is doing better than my 3-yr-old black lab/pit mix, who tends to just paw the door. If I open the door like 4", he will push through with no problem, although he has come through it himself, when the others came through. I am trying to let the doors rub against them pretty naturally, so they get used to is, although I'm still, on occasion, having to hold the doors open some to encourage them. Bottom line, I'm pretty satisfied. NOTE: I had a retired General Contractor install it for me and HE had troubles deciphering the instructions, as did I. My best advice is to search YouTube for Plexidor installation. They have different types of surfaces they show installation in, and this was the "Oh, okay, I get it" help we needed. Also, it's not a fast installation, so start early. There was no template, as the instructions noted, so we took our time and did the inside wall cut first, taking out insulation, etc. We did have to go get a 2x4, so did the outside stucco cutting, and rest of the install, the next day.
