This lamp is designed to draw the attention of others and its good looks (enhanced from the brushed steel construction) are bound to get positive comments from your guests. This eye-catching, stylish, and modern lamp is quite sturdy reflecting its good workmanship. The lamp is on the larger side and coupled with the arch, I would only recommend it for a house, or for an apartment living room or bedroom that is at least 20 feet by 12 feet. Otherwise, if might look disproportionately large. This lamp is pricey, not because of its material cost but primarily reflecting the premium one is paying for its “design” and good looks. The base is very heavy (some kind of stone that is enclosed in a layer of brushed steel) and should ensure that there is no chance of the lamp tipping over. The lamp allows for a range of lighting possibilities because of the movable arms, 360 degree rotatable shades (so it points in various directions: up, down, side-wards, diagonal), and dimmer function of the lighting.
Before buying this lamp, I was unaware that the top end of each of the 5 lamp shades had slits. This was probably to create vents for heat to escape but the slits were totally unnecessary because the bottom end of the shade is already open allowing heat from the lamps to escape. Therefore, in my opinion, I consider the slits/vents as a design flaw because it unnecessarily causes light to pass through the slits/vents and shine on the ceiling in a non-uniform way. {To explain how odd this is, when you are expecting light to only fall downwards, with the slits, there is also light cast in the opposite direction (i.e., on the ceiling as well, because of light passing through the slits}. While this is not a major negative point, it does, however, only classify the lamp as good (4 stars) rather than great (5 stars) and my overall rating of 4 stars reflects a 1 star deduction for the unnecessary slits.
The lamp is easy to assemble and one can do it intuitively. I recommend that two persons help with the installation because the unit base is heavy and the arched arms are long. It will take about 20 to 30 minutes to put it together. The instructions, while clear, are written as though all parts are separated, when some small parts are already attached. The instructions, therefore, creates some confusion. Nevertheless, putting together this unit is so simple that one can figure things out intuitively. Bottom-line: putting together is lamp is relatively easy and the manufacturer deserves a full 5 stars for making assembly quite simple.
The unit came in a big package. Even though the outer package was damaged in a few spots, on the inside, the unit was 100% intact/perfect/not-damaged.
The lamp can accommodate a max. of 40 watts per bulb (Type B socket).
Comment for the Manufacturer/Designer: I am bit disappointed because, despite being relatively expensive, only candelabra bulbs (rather than LED bulbs) are provided with this lamp. The higher cost that the manufacturer would have had to absorb for LED bulbs would have been more than offset from profits generated by potentially higher sales of this unit. I also recommend that with the bulbs, whether candelabra or LED, that the customer be given the choice of lighting whether soft white (i.e., yellow light) or pure white (5000K). Additionally, work on making the dimmer switch sturdier with better tension while one turns the dimmer switch. Finally, I recommend that the top side of the lamp shade be completely enclosed (get rid of the vents/slits described earlier in my review).
