First, the good. This lamp is adorable for a small living room. It's shorter than a typical floor lamp. THE BEST PART about this lamp is the base. Instead of being a bulky, heavy disk, it's actually tapers to a soft and elegant finish at the bottom. The glass decorative globes in the middle alternate with solid smaller white balls, and the effect is surprisingly charming, rather than cheap. The lamp provides a lovely soft light. I didn't realize they are 3-way lamps, so I may try a 3-way bulb for the one I have remaining. Also, the lamps are VERY EASY to assemble. NOW FOR THE BAD ... I ordered 2 lamps to begin with. One was terribly crooked when it screwed together; the only is only a little bit crooked (passable). Thankfully, Great Offer Stock rushed me a replacement lamp for the crooked one in a jiffy, and I returned the extremely crooked one. The replacement lamp was only slightly crooked, passable. But then, only 3 months after purchasing these lamps, the little screw thingie that you use to turn the light on and off ... BROKE! It would just spin round and round and not turn the light on or off. ARGH. A friend of mine who fixes lamps said something like, "No problem, I'll just replace the lamp socket, etc." But when he got the lamp to his house to work on it, he found out that the electrical parts were glued together or torqued together so tightly that he could not get them apart. So now I'm trying to figure out. Shall I order another of these lamps? They are kind of expensive. I went to the store that starts with "I" and looked at all the floor lamps they have there. They all have big annoying heavy bases ... none of them have the lovely tapered based at the bottom like this one has, of which I am so enamored. So. What to do. If I have a 4th lamp sent to me, it seems I've got a good chance of it being either super-crooked or slightly crooked. And then who knows how long before the light switch dial will break on either lamp. But ... other than the problem with crookedness and broken lamp switch ... I love the style of these lamps. They look perfect in my living room. But perhaps I should just "let go" and get something different.
