Awesome. Very pleased.
I tend to be a “nervous” internet shopper—but I’m a fairly courageous one. I had two major concerns about this item. One, would it be true to size? And it is, exactly 96 inches in diameter. Two, would that background color in the center area and on the periphery be a green hue, as shown, and not the dark gray/near black that appears in the pictures of the rectangular rugs in this rug family. And it is definitely a green hue. Beyond that, I was somewhat concerned that the overall visual impact of this rug might be too “lawdy-gaudy” for its intended environment. But, feeling a bit “lawdy-gaudy” myself these days, I decided to risk the hassle of doing a return to get a first-hand look.
I was very pleasantly surprised—no way this rug is being returned. I don’t know how the stock photo of this product was done, but I know a couple of things about color. What we perceive as “color” on an object is a reflection of light and that reflection is the product of the pigment on the surface of the object and the nature (spectrum, temperature, intensity, etc.) of the light being reflected. I haven’t seen this rug in direct sunlight (and direct sunlight will never fall on it where I will use it), but I suspect sunlight would give you a lot more of the bright yellow/gold. And my photos, using a flash, give a lot more of the yellow/gold/beige than you actually see under artificial light. But under my indoor lighting, the yellow/gold hardly shows at all from a distance, the green being predominant. The green hue in the center background is what I would call a sage green or “gray-green”—with handsome short streaks that you can see up close that appear to be the result of combining a darker green with light gray/green fibers. but definitely the impression is green. The “charcoal/red” is also a function of the light. It does not appear bright red. I have a solid brick wall, antique red, up to ten feet at the peak, in the room where this rug is, and the rug complements the wall beautifully.
I took some pictures, and made adjustments on one to try and show how this product appears, indoors, under warm incandescent light. The picture is not perfect, but for me, the rug is just about perfect. I’ll say this: if you have a brown leather sofa, any shade, mahogany or walnut paneling or furniture, upholstered furniture that is brown, beige, gold, green (ex-lime), or a red brick wall like mine, and room for a piece like this, this rug is going to enhance the room very much.
