Safavieh Nirvana 10-inch Euro Pillow-top Spring King-size Mattress Bed-in-a-Box
Bottom line - if you want a very good quality, firm, king-size spring mattress that is delivered to your door, has a 5-year warranty, and is only about $*** so is 1/4 to 1/6 the cost of a comparable retail mattress, then this is the one for you.
The details: I need a firm mattress so need the support of a spring mattress. I have had Tempurpedic ($2000) but there was too much give, and recently had a high end Beautyrest (also $2000) which was good but developed body indents after 5 years partially due to bad support underneath. In looking for a new mattress, I shopped the better online brands - bed in a box, Caspar, Helix, Leesa, Saatva, etc., because I had already purchased several less expensive bed in a box type mattresses for a vacation home and have no qualms about those, and figured I could get a high quality bed for my regular home for much less than a store purchase.
I decided to go with Helix and purchased a medium firm mattress which sounded like it would be good for my wife who likes softer and me who needs firmer. Unfortunately, I was waking up with a backache each day. The Helix is customized and well made and I do recommend it - it just wasn't firm enough for me. They lived up to their guarantee and are picking it up and donating it to charity and refunding the purchase price ($1000 before they recently raised their prices.)
That left three options for me - Saatva's bed looks really well made - two layers of springs plus other comfort materials - but about $1400; Helix could make a hybrid bed - half firm, half soft, also about $1400. But I really did not want to risk having to send another custom bed back - it's unfair to the company; or purchase a much cheaper one -- the Safavieh was about $*** with an Great Offer Stock coupon which really is crazy cheap for a king bed (I also bought a folding steel foundation a few months ago for $120) -- worst case, use it at the vacation home or donate it to charity myself if it did not work out; best case, get 5-7 years out of it. I chose the last option since I have this same Safavieh mattress at the other house and it worked great so I hoped the quality would be consistent and it would work at home too and it does.
It was delivered earlier than expected, brought right to the door (it's in a slim box but heavy - the delivery man helped me bring it inside), I then dragged it to the bed, lifted it up one side at a time, and it was easy to unravel from there - just carefully cut the plastic wrapping and the mattress unfurls and expands. In 4 hours or so it's fully expanded. Very slight odor from the plastic wrap that dissipated in a few hours. After that, very restful sleep. If you like a mattress that you "float" on rather then sink into, this will be great for you. And my wife was comfortable too, even though she likes soft mattresses as well.
Safavieh makes good quality stuff though inexpensive. I don't expect this to last forever, but I'm sure I'll get at least 5 years of normal use and am guessing closer to 10. Highly recommended for quality/price ratio, comfort, ease of ordering, and delivery.
