There are six different patterns in the dinner plates, all are beautiful. The salad plates are all different too, but they co-ordination with the dinner plates - they go by the type of butterfly displayed (they are named on the back of each plate). The mugs are different too, which makes for a magnificent looking table when they are all on display. It gives one the feeling of sitting in a tranquil garden while enjoying a tasty meal. I hope this has been helpful to you. These dishes are truly beautiful. I purchased place settings for twelve and am delighted with them. They do well in the microwave (they do get hot, so use a potholder to remove them from the microwave) and they clean beautifully in the dishwasher.
