The fabric is very thick. I am thinking you could do the hook route, you would likely need more width. By the way, we have really enjoyed these. They block the light as well as the heat in our eastern facing room.

I had to use hooks, got strong ones with a `longer` pin and pushed them through the tabs at the back so they would not show through in the front, works great :)
