I purchased the Artisan 1430 in March, 2014 and have now used it for over 8 months. My primary uses are for restoration and high enlargement of antique monochrome photographs, enlargement of high resolution astronomy photographs, and production and enlargement of 3D anaglyph photographs. For these photos I use only Best Photo settings at Photo RPM (Max dpi), Adobe RGB, Gamma 2.2, and Ultra Premium Epson paper. My prints are of outstanding quality, especially considering the difficult nature of reproducing some of them. My other prints are of color Text and Image subjects using plain paper with normal print quality settings. The printer settings are comprehensive and easy to use, and allow saving your custom color management profiles for future use. I have experienced no mechanical problems like paper jams, feed problems, or any others. My ink usage is reasonable considering that I use the highest quality settings and paper for my photo projects. I have printed 21 13x19 photos, 6 11.7x16.5 photos, 25 8.5x11 photos, 107 4x5 photos, and 225 8.5x11 text and image prints. I have used 14 cartridges, the highest usage being light cyan and light magenta, probably because of my subject material. I have bought all Epson paper and ink on sale at 15% to 40% discount with free shipping. My suggestion for print quality and ink conservation is to use only Epson paper, as recommended. I initially started test printing on leftover 4x5 premium paper from my previous printer, and was disappointed that the black in all prints was actually a dark muddy brown, obviously ruinous to an antique photo reproduction. I found the same issue with retail store brand 13x19 premium photo paper. I switched to all Epson paper and the problem disappeared completely. I have found the color is an exact representation of the original in all cases. My recommendation for ink conservation is to not turn off the printer so the cartridges do not need to be primed each time that the printer is used. My printer has been on since purchase. Another suggestion is to use the printer regularly, for the same reason. I try to print at least one 4x5 every week or two, to keep the ink flowing. One further suggestion is to always check the Print Preview option on the Advanced properties tab. I have found that occasionally my print setting was not what I had intended, and the preview lets you check everything before you print. It's also a good idea to print a test 4x5 to check the appearance before printing an enlargement. I often print several of these to see the affects of different settings. The print speed is also very acceptable even for 13x19 ultra high resolution enlargements. The wireless capability makes it possible to print from any of your devices. I would highly recommend this printer as an outstanding value for the high quality you receive in your prints.
