It's nice to have the option of two lenses. I find the 3x to be just fine for most needs, but the 5 is there if one fancies it. The leds produce a lot of very white light. I think the written description says the light output is equivalent to a 178W incandescent bulb. It could use a two, or better, three-stage dimmer switch, say adding 60 and 120W equivalents in addition to the full output. I ended up taping two layers of a softening stage lighting gel over the leds, which make it more pleasant/less harsh to use. Also, I find myself sometimes fishing around for the flush-mounted switch when casually reaching up in its general vicinity. I have another magnifying lamp similar to this one that employs a rocker switch that sits higher and is easily felt. Also, there isn’t a top lens cover, so the glass will tend to get dusty, and there is also the potential danger of a fire should the lens be in direct sunlight. I cut a piece of cardboard the size of the lens and taped it to the plastic frame in such a way that I can easily flip it back out of the way when needed. So, it’s nice having the extra lens, but the design can use several improvements, imho.
