Size large comfortably fits my 70lb and 85lb fur babies. I was pleasantly surprised by the fabric, it feels more like a soft canvas, then micro velvet. Because of that, I think it will hold up better. I should mention, it is cumbersome BUT not difficult to remove the pillow pads from the cover. Once the pads are removed it resembles a huge duffle bag,which machine washes and dries nicely. I am very pleased.

First night with these beds and my 80# beasts did not try to ninja their way into my bed. They are super cozy, appear to be well made the pups are pretty much in love. Extra large size is super roomy for my long-legged Ridgeback.

There are 2 zippers- one on the side of the bottom pad, and one on the side of the ring which goes around the bottom pad. This allows for the bottom pad and the large padded ring to be removed. Both zippers are very well hidden. My dog is a bed scratcher also, she always has to make her nest every night. And so far the bed has held up very well – I love that the cover is washable

Yes. There are 2 separate compartments - one for the actual bed and one for the outside ring. I just washed mine for the first time and came out perfect. I did use the gentle cycle and made sure to zip everything back up for the wash. Had no shrinkage in the dryer either.
