The book ends get 3 stars for looks and the whimsical style, but I also truly needed book ends that will hold my books. I have to do a juggling act to hold one of the book ends while pulling out a book, else books everywhere. :(
Love them. I work with children and have a lot of books. Perfect for my bookshelf!!
The book ends arrived exactly as pictured and are very nice. Despite the careful packaging there is a small scratch on the side. I put it toward the books so that it doesn't show but that's the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. Otherwise, these are very nice and weighty and work quite well in addition to being unobtrusive yet attractive. Just what I like in my book ends since I'm of the opinion that the books are the focal point - not the bookends.
These are great looking and perhaps sturdy enough to hold children's books. However, they do not do the trick for large textbooks or legal treatises. We had to reinforce with plain metal bookends. Very pretty though and I still would recommend them assuming you're willing to reinforce with the metal bookends like we did.
