The 4 Best Ways to Hang Bay Window Curtains

Bay windows are built in a variety of shapes and sizes. They can be polygonal, square, or curved, and they can each feature a different number of windows. Fortunately, there are several ways to hang your bay window treatments, each with different benefits to suit your preferences. Take your window treatments up a notch with the perfect curtain rod. Check out the options below to find your match.

1

Flexible Curtain Track

No matter the shape or size of your bay window, a flexible curtain track can be installed to fit the area. These tracks are installed on your ceiling, and ball bearing rollers on the track attach to your curtains. The track allows you to use any number of curtain panels you like and move them freely across the whole track. Because the track is installed directly on the ceiling, a special valance curtain on the ceiling will be needed to hide the track from view. A flexible curtain track is one of the most versatile curtain hanging options, but it does take a little more effort for installation.

2

Bay Window Curtain Rod

Bay curtain rods are designed to fit traditional, three-section bay windows. They have three adjustable sections of curtain rod connected by flexible elbows. These curtain rods usually use mounting brackets similar to straight curtain rods, which means installation is easy. You can also choose from a number of different styles and finishes to match the look of your home. Even though the mounting brackets prevent the curtains from moving as freely as they would on a curtain track, this option is more affordable and easier to install on your own.

3

Straight Curtain Rods

If you can’t find a bent curtain rod to fit the shape of your bay window, you can install a straight curtain rod above each individual section. This might be necessary if your bay window has more than three sections or if you can’t install a traditional bay curtain rod or a track. Straight curtain rods also offer double rod options for curtain layering and can be customized with decorative finials for added style.

4

Tension Curtain Rods

For a more minimal style, you can install tension curtain rods inside the frame of the window. These rods extend across the inside of the window casing and press firmly against either side to stay securely in place. There are no tools necessary for installation, but the rods lack any finials or decorative ends. If you trim your curtains to the height of your window, you can fit the tension rod and window treatment perfectly inside the window frame for a sleek look.
