I was surprised at how much brighter, larger and heavier this silverware was as I am only used to the cheap stuff. I love the handmade look, I noticed a couple of rough spots however the packaging was a disgrace! Single pieces and groups held by elastic were thrown into a 9X9 box with only a small piece of bubble wrap. When I opened the box some were standing up and some laying down, in a JUMBLE... Also the box itself was taped poorly and the address was put on the bottom of the box. At least all of the pieces could be wrapped in a big piece of bubble wrap together (like a burrito) and taped neatly! This is a heavy box and it would be easy for this silverware to get loose and fall out of the box.
This is a LARGE set of flatware. I like it, but each piece is much bigger than expected. The handle width on all pieces is 15/16". The length of the knife is 9 3/4". The large fork is 8" long overall. 5 1/4 of that is handle, the rest is the tines. It is a also heavier than any flatware I've ever had. Paul Bunyan flatware! If you're looking for dainty or delicate this not it, but it's a good set of flatware. I bought a second set of this 4 years later. It is no longer Paul Bunyan flatware. Everything is shorter, lighter and thinner. It's still ok, but I was disappointed not to get the same quality.
This St. James Country Hammer 18/10 stainless steel 45 piece flatware set is exactly what we have been looking for. Love the hammered appearance and that rustic industrial country charm!
I love this silverware set. It is HEAVY, to the point when I have dinner guests over, they comment on it's weight. But it looks great and holds up well too. Great aesthetic and the bonus pieces (butter knife, sugar spoon, meat fork, etc.) are an nice touch.
I just received package 1 of 2 of this set of stainless steel by St. James. Who ever heard of this? I was very skeptical, but your reviews helped alot. Yes, it is gorgeous, heavy and shiny. The packaging was excellent (8.3.17). I have NOT yet used the stainless nor have I put it in the dishwasher...that's why I gave it 4 stars. Will keep you posted. And I am awaiting set 2 of 2 sets ordered. So, this is my question...are you putting the stainless in the dishwasher; and if so, which detergent pellets are you using? I will write back again in a month to keep this review current.
I had mixed feeling about ordering flatware online. Historically, I prefer to be able to feel how much the different pieces weigh. The description of the item gave me the length of each piece, which is a big help. I am thrilled with this set. It’s well balanced, hefty enough that it feels solid, and long enough that it feels functional. I’d love to see this set in a different pattern , but with the same dimensions. I wouldn’t hesitate on this purchase. I have long fingers, so I dislike using short flatware. This set checked all the boxes, and I will go back to this brand in the future.
The packing of the product is poor. I needed two sets. I have ordered a third set to make for the missing parts. Then I will ship the incomplete set back. After speaking with several Great Offer Stock customer service people I was told that this has been a problem with the supplier. Wish that had been noted before I ordered. It has been a hassle. The third set has not yet arrived. I had been told to wait for the se ons set to see if that would complete the first set. They should have been shipped together in my opinion. They were ordered as one order. Hope it all works out in the end, as I am following instructions I was given.
I think this set was a very good value, however, it's not the heaviest flatware. It's good for a cottage due to the real 18/10 stainless steel. A couple of things I liked: 1. The pattern is on the other side, 2. Large-sized spoons, forks for a larger-sized family - some people may find them a bit too large.
We were long overdue for a new silverware set ... but this one was certainly worth the wait! Sturdy ... but not too heavy. And honestly, it's just beautiful. The perfect combination of classic + modern. FAST FWD: We only handwash our silverware & this set already TARNISHED. WE PURCHASED THIS SET JUST SIX MONTHS AGO. Should have kept my "ugly, old" set... Because, 20 years later & NO discoloration, unlike the St. James Country Hammer Set. EXTREMELY disappointed.
The good: Although the mailing box was worn and dirty the silverware was properly packed. This set has good weight and feels substantial. The 18/10 metel gleams and shines. At $*(a summer discount) I found this was a bargain. The serving pieces are useful and attractive. The bad: The sugar spoon had a few scratches. The butter knife an imperfection on the blade. The large spoons are huge, they are so out of proportion they are practically unusable. The knife handle has the hammered pattern on both sides. On the remaining pieces the pattern is on the front of the handle. On the back is the imprint of the hammered impression, not what I was expecting. Overall this is a good buy if you can look past the negatives.
I bought this flatware for use with my fancy china. The manufacturer says the flatware is dishwasher safe and I have washed once with good results. 18/10 steel is the way to go for flatware. It shines without the constant polishing of silverware. This flatware set is on the large size, which I prefer for my big paws. Finally, the design is a pleasing combination rustic and modern esthetics.
Very good quality flatware set. I especially like the hammered texture. These are dishwasher safe and can be washed by hand. I definitely recommend this set!
I love these silverware. They're a nice weight (on the heavier end), and good sized (on the larger end) and pretty. I'd love it if you could buy flatware with 1 fork, 1 knife and 1 teaspoon--we're not that formal and the extra fork and spoon are just that...extra.
This silverware is great. All the pieces are very heavy-duty and sturdy. The weight is great. The only drawback, I think is that all the pieces seem slightly larger than normal silverware. For example, the small spoons seem like tablespoons and the tablespoons seem like serving spoons. That said, the silverware feels pretty grand, versus wimpy and lightweight, which I prefer. All in all, I had done my homework both online and in stores, and this was a purchase that nicely balanced style, durability, and price. Great value, all in all.
I was looking for the hammered look. This set was very reasonable so I tried it. I am very happy with the quality.
Amazing flatware, very nice stainless steel finish and very heavy. We ordered a second set and have washed them in the dishwasher and they are still bright and shiny.
We just purchased a home in the Florida Keys and i wanted something that was coastal looking like "fish scales". The set is heavy and expensive looking. I will say that the teaspoons are larger, but for adults they are the perfect size and weight. I loved the fact it came with matching serving pieces. I will probably buy 1 more set! Follow up: I did purchase another set and I am pleased with the durability of this flatware set!
The flatware arrived in excellent condition. All of the pieces were perfect. They are heavy-weight, sturdy and shiny. As others reported, they're larger than the usual flatware, but I love them. The "teaspoons" are almost as large as some "tablespoons", which gives my husband a bit of heartburn. I may put the regular teaspoons in the drawer, too, to make him happy. They go thru the dishwasher just fine - no discoloration or dulling of the finish. This is my first new set of flatware in ten years, and I am very satisfied with them!
This is a nice set for the price paid. It will be used for daily meals. I wanted the stainless stainless steel because I like my flatware to have a little weight to it, not flimsy. I would recommend this product.
We finally have a larger house and our old flatware set for 8 doesn't feed all who we entertain. This isn't exactly the same as our old R&B set that has been discontinued by them, but it's close enough that you'd never notice the difference. I want to make a note about your customer service here---we have literally spent nearly $15K online shopping since moving to furnish our house. Your customer service is completely untouched by other companies. I managed to order this and have it sent to our old address by accident. Despite the package being sent to our old address because of MY mistake, Great Offer Stock resent another set to our new address as soon as I called. You have earned a new family of customers as I have been signing your praises to anyone who will listen. Thank you. You are AMAZING!!!
