The product does a great job sharpening soft steel knives such as those below the 440 grade. Very easy to use but that does come at a price. Although the carbide head does a good job of abrading the crude edge ,while the ceramic edge does give it an .. ok finish. Ultimately it will be sharp but it won't give you that polished and fine finish a freehand workman can with a waterstone. Also ,metal filings does have a tendency to get stuck to the stones . Furthermore if you have really tough steel knives such as those in the 1095 range. It's going to have a hard time sharpening those blades ,especially if they are damaged. I have a** with a dented edge, spent almost an hour trying to level the edge , still miles from reaching the base of the dent , but then that is to be expected. As for the aesthetics.... well its a simple home tool , nothing fancy. The plastic does feel cheap sometimes but the base is grippy and it gets the job done. All in all , an alright tool for people who don't want to spend too much time on learning the skill required ,but only want an operational blade.
