We just moved into a house with hardwood floors everywhere. I got this to go under a rug for my living room. It's nice because it's not too thick, but substantial enough for my expensive hand made wool area rug. I had a few inches of rug overlap the pad to give it a lay flat look and the pad isn't noticeable at all. The picture you can see the pad sticking out because I will finish by cutting it to fit. This pad really stops slipping rugs. Have bought many carpets here and all went in rooms with slippery wooden floors. Simply put, it works. Also provides some extra softness to make carpet feel more plush. All around great option.

Using a 4x6 rug pad on a 5x8 rug would still keep this rug in place. However it depends on the thickness of your 5x8 rug since this rug pad is slightly thicker than some, it may be slightly noticeable. If you are concerned about seeing the rug pad underneath, my recommendation would be to buy the 5x8 size rug pad- this way you have the option to trim it if you would like.

You can purchase the 4 x 6 size padding. If you would like it to be slightly smaller, there is the 3x5 option size. Keep in mind, this padding can be cut as well. So you can trim an inch off of the 4 x 6 size so it is not the exact size of your rug.

The 8x11 rug pad is the true size of the pad. If you have an 8.6x11.6, I would recommend buying the 9x12.

It appears to be all fibers "matted together" to form the pad. I cannot be absolutely certain there are no rubber fibers in it. They do state that there is latex in it. I would suggest you email Nourison directly or go to a carpet/rug store that sells Nourison and they should be able to confirm one way or the other.

i would keep the pad the same shape as the rug or the corners of the rug may 'curl up'. the pad is easy to trim but i think you would want it about an inch less that the size of the rug. i would not mix shapes

I'm not sure how a round pad would work under a square rug, but I purchased a pad that was the same size as the rug and I did have to trim it a little. It was very easy to trim with a scissors.

I would get the square version of this rug, if they have one. It is easy to trim it to fit, but I really like the cushion of it under my rug, it makes a difference. If you go round you would notice there is no cushion to your corners. Really like this pad, rug doesn't move either on top of pad or from underneath.
