I was concerned ordering a bed that was significantly less expensive than some of the other styles, however this bed is very high quality, with all of the holes drilled properly and very sturdy for a nice basic bunk bed. Making the bed is a little tricky, but my 6 yo son loves it. I do have an issue now with my 8' ceilings and the ceiling fan, as I will have to disable it for any kid to sleep in the top bunk- for safety reasons in the small kids bedroom. This would be the case for most bunk beds I would imagine. As far as putting the bed together- I have no idea how one woman by herself was able to put this together in 45 mins, no matter how experienced. I am also experienced in building furniture from Great Offer Stock and other online sources, I had my father, an engineer there to help (def need two people for one to hold and one to screw for some parts) and it took us a solid three hours. It was not difficult, just a lot of bolts and screws. Make sure to examine the pictures on instructions carefully, as we did put the top piece of full headboard on backwards and had to re-do it. We used a drill attachment instead of the allen wrench and this saved A LOT of time and hand torture. Overall this is an excellent piece of furniture which will last a long time. I love that you can separate the pieces later. The color is a dark navy, not bright. Also, I have a 8" mattress on the top bunk, and it is a little close to the rails, but should be fine for an older child. I used memory foam on both and they have nice support with the included rails. I did not use the spacing tools for the rails, just spaced and centered on my own.
