This bed is very solid and heavy after putting it all together. It is obviously made of compressed wood materials, and is not an extravagant piece of furniture, though it has a clean look. It was time consuming to put it all together; it took me an afternoon, evening, morning, and afternoon to finish (maybe 8-10 hrs). The actual putting together is not hard, there are just a lot of screws involved. I definitely needed help to lift the top piece and put it in place to complete the bed. If you have a small room, get two bookshelves instead of the dresser. I did not take the time to measure, and it would have saved me the trouble of putting together the drawers... While I think it is functional and serves its purpose, I would not buy this bed again. I know the novelty of a loft bed will eventually wear off and I dread the day that I have to disassemble it. When the time comes I might consider selling my house and throwing in the bed as a "bonus."
