We live in Southern California where the Santa Anas and dry climate year round wreak havoc on my sinuses. I like to have a humidifier running, if even on low, all day round. The HC12B is the first I've had that doesn't look like an eye sore or take up valuable counter space. With the 3 adjustable 'vase like' necks I can even set it on the floor next to the couch and enjoy amazing atmosphere filtering. Here are some of my favorite notes, and any (small) quirks we've found.
Pros:
+Beautiful design- fits in with our decor and doesn't stand out any more than the home audio speakers. It's slender footprint makes it easy to set on a coffee table by the couch, or even near the fireplace.
+Very quiet with ultrasonic operation. If anything, when the house is dead silent, the gentle bubbles remind me of a zen fountain (white noise.)
+ 2.5 gallon tank will run nearly 2 days on low without needing to be refilled- great for especially dry days.
+I just adore the scale tones the unit makes when you turn it up or down, it's so intuitive to note the level of operation through sound.
+The remote is a great way to adjust the humidity level from anywhere in the room, bedside, or nursery (where this would make an especially great gift for new moms.)
Quirks:
-We did find some of the seams were hard to blend in without a bit of 'force' putting the different sections together and exchanging neck pieces. Not an eyesore, but I am type A and tend to fuss over things until they're perfect.
-The remote is cute and shaped like the unit, but I wish it stood. The rounded back tends to make it slide and fall off couch edges and coffee tables. I worry I won't be able to operate the unit efficiently if it gets lost, since the majority of operation control is built in to the remote.
- The necks do accumulate quite a bit of moisture when the unit is run medium-high, as does the lower tank reservoir/collection pan. Be sure to check and clean these parts at least once a week with moderate operation.
