This was my first time purchasing furniture online. After reading through the reviews on this table and receiving an email notification it was on sale, I decided to place an order. From the time I placed my order to receiving it took a total of six days including the weekend. Item was delivered via UPS. I live on the third floor and was afraid UPS would drop it off at the first landing. Not so. A very courteous UPS associate carried the two boxes all the way up three flights of stairs. Nice job UPS. Both items were packaged extremely well. The table top was double boxed and insulated with styrofoam and card board. The table base legs were individually wrapped and secured in the shipping box with styrofoam. Assembly: it took me approximately forty-five minutes to assemble the entire table by myself. The hardest part is placing the glass on top of the base. I was able to place the glass on top of the base without any assistance, but it is definitely easier with two people. A number of customers complained about having difficulty with assembly and leveling the table. I did not have any problems with either one of these issues. I will say follow the directions (pictures). And place all nuts, washers and bolts in their individual predrilled holes before tightening. Tighten each one a little at time instead of one at a time. Quality: The price had me worried about the quality. You know the saying, you get what you pay for. The quality more than exceeded my expectations. Despite being extremely well packaged the base arrived with two small scratches/nicks which I will fix with a furniture marker. I think the scratches occurred in production and not during shipping. Note to Overstock: reinforce the importance of inspecting product prior to shipping to customer. Not all customers are willing to over look small imperfections when spending their hard earned money. And for the inquiring minds, the base is black with a semi-gloss finish. Keep in mind the base is not made of top the line solid oak, but it is also not made of MDF. The glass top makes the table. The ring which sits inside the base is made of polished aluminum. Is it solid metal? No, but it does not look like the cheap piece of metal some reviewers described. The table top was perfect. No scratches or sticky film. The glass is extremely thick with a smooth, almost black polished edge. The description states the edge is beveled, but the table top I received was not beveled. The quality of the glass and overall look of the table made me forgive the lack of a beveled edge. Once assembled this table is absolutely beautiful! Make sure to inspect all pieces prior to assembling the table and be mindful to not bang or rub base pieces (three) against each other during the assembling process.
Keep in mind this is a glass table. I have yet to meet a glass table that was smudge or fingerprint proof. With that being said, the back of the instructions include helpful tips on how to maintain this beautiful piece of furniture and protect your purchase.
This table fits perfectly In my 10'3"X 11' dining area and accommodates up to four chairs comfortably. I would not place more than four chairs around this particular table.
