Stunning, solid, keepsake.
I was really reluctant to buy this for a few reasons. First, there were no reviews. Second, there was only 1 picture so it was hard to get a good feel for how the whole thing was made and looked. Thirdly, there was no information about this piece elsewhere on the internet. But i took a leap of faith anyway because I was a little enchanted with how unique this piece was and the retro style. I'm so glad I did.
This is a very unique, solid piece. You may think it pricey, depending on your budget, but its worth every single penny. I will keep this piece forever. Perhaps one of the best furniture purchases i've ever made.
Color is true to picture. This is solid mango wood - solid. The grains and variations in color are gorgeous. The front diamond doors are glass, the shelf inside is solid wood. So is the back. The exact same wood you see in the picture is what every inch of this is made of! No screws, nails or hardware are visible anywhere. The back has no cutouts for cables, so don't think this could double as an entertainment unit. And honestly, it would be a shame to put a tv on such a stunning piece of art.
The legs are solid and sturdy. The doors are solid and open and swing easily. They close securely and flush with each other and the entire unit. The door handles were a pleasant surprise! I was expecting silver or bronze handles that were a simple rod/poll shape. They're so much better than that! They're an antique gold/brass which compliments both the wood tones and the retro style. And they are not plain rods/polls but rather octogonal - which plays off the angles in the diamond doors. Its a simple and understated touch that really makes the piece.
Absolutely no wobble in this piece. The only structural tidbit I can give is that because this piece is so solid, the doors are very heavy. So if the cabinet is empty or has only lightweight contents, don't open both doors at the same time. It becomes front heavy and begins to lean forward. If you only have one door open this doesnt happen at all, even if the cabinet is empty. So this isn't a flaw in my opinion, just something good to know.
As for delivery, here is what to expect and a few words of wisdom. Delivery time was initially about 5-7 business days. Not bad for quality furniture at all. But they were shipping it UPS. What??? A beautiful, $1300 piece of furniture being delivered in the mail? Yup. I had them deliver it at a UPS customer center for pickup since I live in an apartment and UPS doesnt deliver to my door but rather the office. When i went to pick it up, it was damaged. Several punctures in the box (which weighs 113 lbs by the way), and wood chips could be felt when I slipped my hand through the holes. So of course I refused delivery. Overstock's customer service was fantastic of course, and they immediately arranged an actual delivery service to deliver a replacement. In my opinion this should have been the first delivery method, and hopedully they'll make this change for the future. Perhaps future buyers can call Great Offer Stock to request this. The delivered replacement was perfect. Downside is it took a coupld weeks to get the replacement but it was certainly worth the wait.
In summary, this is one of the beat furniture purchases I've ever made. I get compliments all the time and no one can believe I found such a piece on Great Offer Stock. I will keep this forever.
Order it. You won't regret it.
