This piece holds our audio equipment and has quickly become a new focal point for our 70s-style family room. (You know, used to have paneling, a low acoustic ceiling and a big brick fireplace). We leave only one component showing in the middle (a shiny Samsung cable box, with clock) and hide all the other ugly audio components behind the two sliding doors, which is possible if you have a Harmony remote. On top, we've kept a decorative vase, which becomes a focal point too.
It is mounted underneath the windowsill of a large picture window, with the TV on a different wall. We ran all the wires through the walls to the TV and speakerS (while ripping out the paneling) so it's a very clean, modern look. This cabinet is very well thought out, with appropriate cut outs for wall mounting and a TV on top, if you want.
It's not super high quality furniture (it's some kind of pressed fiberboard, I believe), but on the other hand, it's not very expensive. I've never seen anything like it, either. They were thoughtful enough to include a crayon to repair scratches, which is necessary because the finish is pretty thin.
The whole cabinet hangs on a metal rail that you anchor into your studs. It's a pretty ingenious way to keep this cabinet perfectly level.
