I purchased this unit to complete my original plan for a high-gloss white entertainment wall in my home. I attempted a near miss with some Ikea pieces, but this piece completed my vision. I already had 2 tall cabinets in high-gloss white, and this larger unit fit perfectly in my recessed area between the Ikea cabinets.
First, this item arrives in 3 VERY heavy boxes. Plan on being home when your order is delivered so the delivery person can wheel the boxes inside (home/garage) instead of you trying to drag them inside. Second, there are a LOT of pieces with instructions that are less than clear. I knocked off one star for the instructions.
I hired someone to assemble and install this unit, but it still took 3 of us (1 hired hand, me, and a male friend) to get this unit into place. When each half is fully assembled, this wall unit will require 2 strong backs to lift it into place, and it will take the same 2 strong backs to hang the console unit. I had to maneuver around as needed to pull cables through, help align things, etc. This was about a 10-hour, very tiring day.
One thing that the main instructions did NOT address at all was the so-called TV mount. I looked all over the Internet for instructions or mention of this mount before I opened the boxes but found nothing. I thought this component had been left off my order and then realized there was a small box of hardware I hadn't noticed before.
What the TV "mount" actually consists of is 2 brackets that will mount to the wall unit using 4 screws (NOTE: you must drill the holes for the brackets using an included template for placement of the TV brackets according to your model of TV). The screws included didn't seem big enough to hold much weight, so I provided my own beefier wood screws.
There are what I think of as grommets (round disks with channels) that will attach to your TV and slip into the TV brackets. There are 2 spacers/standoffs included for the bottom of the TV that you may or may not need. I inverted mine because I didn't have screws long enough to secure them into the TV, and they just seem to be there to keep the TV from tilting down a bit. BTW, the small set of instructions for this step mentions that you may need to use screws for your specific TV, so plan on having your own mounting screws handy for this step in case your TV model requires screws unlike those provided, like mine did.
One of the hardest parts of the installation was actually hanging the unit and getting the cables to stay in place. You have to run all the cables before you hang each piece because you'll never be able to run a cable after it's hung. I forgot to run the cable for my Kinect, but I really don't care about that. TIP, for the cables that will go to the TV, I used a telephone cord and painter's tape so I could fish them all through as the guys hung the unit on the wall.
The LED lights on this unit are a bit precarious as the wiring connects behind the unit and must be secured (hardware provided) before hanging the wall unit. The instructions do show the maximum weight limits for each section of the unit, which I appreciate. The TV brackets reportedly hold a maximum weight of 80Kg, so you should verify your TV’s weight before purchasing.
If I can find a way to upload photos, I will do so showing the various installation stages, including the TV brackets. Overall I love this unit, though it's a tough install. Great Offer Stock had the best price I found online, and this unit is worth the price. It's sleek, contemporary, and very sturdy. I’m very happy with this unit. I recommend this unit highly with lots of muscle and patience, and then after it's done I suggest a beer and a movie. :-)
