I'm an "empty-nester" and so am looking to teach myself how to cook things that take longer than the 13 minutes my kids used to allow me. So I have been lax in my stash of cookery. The steel mesh on this strainer is firm, which is good. All of the seals between the mesh and the rim and handle are tight. Mine is a 5.5" diameter and, measuring it, this is accurate. The mesh is tight, but no too tight, so I know I will be able to use it for things like straining broth, or smashing somewhat more bulky things through it (cooked veggies). The rim, bowl clip and handle are rounded so the handle is friendly to your hand. This is a great sieve and I know I will use it a lot.
