Philips screwdriver is all you need.
The box arrives -- and it's a heavy 2-person box. Assembly took us -- my BF and me -- about 3 hours. Parts/hardware are all well-marked, but in our box, parts "6" and "9" were switched -- otherwise, it was easy to figure out. Other than that, no power drill needed. We built it halfway to Step 15 (of 34!) in one area, then moved it closer to it's final position to build out the rest of the steps, because it would have otherwise been quite heavy to move with all the pieces together. I think that saved us! We are using this as a buffet sideboard, but there's a sticker inside that says the unit is wide/strong enough to take on a 52" screen TV. I'm happy with the look of it, as the color pops and it looks sturdy -- this classic white sits beautifully against a light-grey wall. I traded out the (included) knobs with my own for a custom look. I can see this piece transitioning well as we change wall colors, seasonal decor, and different knobs.
