  • Useful fan
    Verified Purchase

What I liked about this fan is that comes with a thermostat that can automatically turn the fan on when the temperature rises. I bought it for the bedroom window. It fits in the window perfectly, with the window fitting into a bit of a slot on the top so that it is easy to "catch" the fan to hold it straight. The fan has 3 speeds and unfortunately even when it is set for the lowest speed when the thermostat turns it on, it starts out with the roar of a high speed and then slows down. Also, my fan makes a bit of a clicking noise as though the fan blades are just barely clipping the protective screening. Since I wanted the fan for the bedroom, I wish it was a bit quieter. I think it should have been designed to turn on with a slow speed rather than the high speed. However it is much quieter than a window air conditioner and the thermostat makes it very useful. Also, you can turn off the automatic feature so that it only comes on when you manually press the on button.

  • great fan

Quiet! A good, srrong fan that adequately cools my dismally hot upstairs. If i haven't been home for a while i exhaust hot air by pulling cooler air from other window before i intake. This fan causes the blinds to move from the (not so nearby) other windows. Love it!

This is the 2nd one we've bought and it's very quiet compared to other brands. Here in the woods we really appreciate the remote control that lets you reverse the airflow to exhaust which is a great feature when you're in bed and start smelling the occasional skunk. The only negative is the lack of leg supports to make it a free standing unit.

  • Love this fan!

Purchased this fan for my children's room and I am really happy with it. It's not an air conditioner but it just fits so much better than the box fan we had in the window and it seems to keep the room cooler than it too. I assume it is because of the window panels (above and below the fan).

  • Much better than I expected
    Verified Purchase

My first one died after 2 weeks, but I'll assume it was a defect. It blew the fuse and couldn't be turned OFF after that incident. Reversing blew it again. Got an exchange and it has been working since last year. It keeps the area cool where you'd need the AC...to a certain extent of course. I wouldn't rely on this for 90 degrees. But it works like a charm and is good at cooling house at summer nights. Remote makes it easy to switch speeds and modes. Temperature reading is neat, but it's a little misleading as it's just the area in front of fan. It takes a while to equalize to far side so you're better off using an IR thermometer if you want to know the temp somewhere instead of just at the fan. Low setting is quiet, then it goes to real loud on high. You can set a temp for the fan to turn itself off, but for me at least, this just makes the fan keep cycling in short periods when it reaches the target. As per above, the temp reading is directly in front of fan and will rise shortly after it shuts off. But that's my house so maybe yours is different. Intake works best for me. Perhaps it's cuz outtake draws air from the hot roof through the vents in my case negating some cooling effect? Maybe having 2 fans on either side of house might work better if I really wanted to "go with the wind forecast" or something to maximize the effect. Overall, it works great despite some shortcomings which could be situational. Works a lot better than a box fan. And if your windows is too big, you don't need to order extra vanes. imo, it will just make it unwieldy when you move it around. I've used it on wide windows by making a cardboard box to fill the gap.

  • Better than I ever Expected
    Verified Purchase

Today most window fans are made very poorly. I am very impressed with this fan. It is quiet, powerful, and sturdy. Bionaire products are usually better but more pricey than other brands but totally worth it. This fans has two great features. If you want to set the fan to a certain temperature you can and when it reaches that temperature it will automatically turn off. It also has a remote control. I am very pleased with this product. I'm going to purchase another one for another room.

  • exceeded expectations
    Verified Purchase

This fan works so well I am buying another one for the family room. I have it in my master bedroom 25x25. I turn it on low at night when the sun goes down. its almost a quiet as a mouse, never bothers wife or I sleeping. on high it does make more noise but never use it on high. Its made for windows that slide up and down, mine are sideways so I just turn it on its side and it works fine. Some say there are too many features and its confusing. No its simple low to high and blow in or out. Don't know what the confusion is. The feature I do not use is the auto temp because it turns on and of constantly trying to maintain the temp so I do not use it. Another nice feature is it tells you the temp of the air entering through the fan, very neat i like that. lastly i knocked it off the window sill several times by accident, zero damage, its pretty tough. ordering another today

This is exactly what I wanted. How many times have you come home to find your home too warm, but you don't want to turn the air on because the outside air is cool. I use this to pull the cooler, fresh air from outside into the house. It does work best in a smaller area, but it is perfect for my situation.

  • Works well, but too many features for a fan

The nice thing about window fans is you can draw air into (or out of) a room without taking up floor or shelf space. This fan has 3 settings, can be set to draw air in or blow air from a room (or dual, too). My problem with the fan? Too complicated! The temperature sensor is a bit much and I need to turn it off. The room temp is always lit, which is just an electricity vampire. Nice that it has a remote. I use these fans throughout my home, no need for AC. You set a fan on the shady side of house to draw air into the home, another on the opposite side of the house is set to exhaust the air. You can really feel the air movement through the house and that's what you want from a fan. Of course it won't feel like it's working if you try to draw very hot air into your home!

Bionaire Window Fan does not do cold. No avail. I do not recommend. I wanted to use instead of the air conditioner in a very small room. But it did not cool.
