It took a week or two for the smell of the solvents in the finish to fade. If you are sensitive to chemical smells in your bedroom you probably want to stay away from this. At the least you will want to take the piece out of its packaging and leave it in an area with good ventilation until the solvent smell fades. This is pretty typical for inexpensive import furniture.
The headboard looks pretty good from 10 or 15 feet away. Any closer and you can tell it's pretty average quality asian import flat-pack furniture. There's not much to assemble here but it did go together quickly and easily with all hardware included and all the holes lined up perfectly, even where it screws to my existing bed frame. It would have been nice to include caps for the screws on the sides. Shiny metal screws showing on the side of a wood furniture piece look cheap. One nice touch was that there are threaded metal inserts where it attaches to your metal frame as well as slots to attach finned side rails.
There are several flaws in the finish, not counting the chips and marks on the back side of the headboard that were probably damage caused during storage and/or shipping. Since the really noticeable damage was on the back, against the wall, I didn't complain or try to return the piece. However, it does speak to the quality so I mention it here.
Overall it's a solid piece and makes our bedroom look more finished but it's not a high quality piece.
