Another piece broken in transit. They made it right and sent replacement parts.

  • Solid bookcase

I got this because it can be built to the width needed and fits perfectly in an awkward space. It arrived missing two boards and there were a lot of dings and scratches. It was easy to order the replacement boards. They arrived in 2 weeks but we're not both correct. I like the bookcase but cannot recommend it due to the packing issues.

  • Great bookshelf

This bookshelf is convenient and easy to adjust size. I like all of the different sized cubbies and the fact that it can be made smaller when needed. Well built. Particle board, of course, but still well made. Easy to put together.

***For those who don't want to read and like the sliding aspect, this bookshelf does NOT slide. You must partially disassemble it to adjust the shelves and then screw it back together again*** Well, I hate to leave reviews that are less than happy, but this bookshelf was one of the biggest pains I've ever assembled and quality wise was very disappointing even for a cheap assemble-it-yourself shelf. The unit arrived in one very heavy box (luckily the UPS guy carried it inside for me). All the pieces were extremely dirty out of the box (more than the normal styrofoam bits and dust, my dust rag was black after cleaning everything off). The boards were about what I expected for a shelf at this price point, except that the edges were still very rough in many places and there were many more scratches and gouges than other similar products I've bought in the past. Quality wise I've had much nicer pieces that were made in China and this one is from the US. Assembly was very unpleasant. The unit has many pieces and a handful of them weren't labeled which could be a problem for some since many are identical in size, but only have different hole patterns. The hardware was much cheaper than I'm used to and several of the cam bolts started stripping just from hand tightening. Assembly probably took somewhere between 3-4 hours by myself, but I took a break in the middle because it was getting very frustrating. After getting the two side pieces completed I was still willing to give this unit 4 stars, but while trying to assemble the two middle parts I ran into problems due to holes not lining up properly on some of the pieces. Finally managed to get everything together in the end. The middle pieces attach to the sides with self tapping screws which I found insanely hard to screw in by hand, but had problems with them stripping as well when I tried to use a drill. By the time I had the unit completely put together I felt like throwing it on the burn pile. If I ever replace it someday I still might. With that said, it actually does fit the space I needed to fill exactly as I hoped. Sorry for the novel, but this was definitely the worst shelf I've ever had to put together and I've assembled many shelves, coffee tables, desks and a few beds before this one. If you are looking for something easy to assemble I'd say pass on this. If you are handy or like a challenge and this meets your space requirements it might not be a bad buy. Two people would definitely make the job a bit easier. Once it's all together it doesn't look bad overall, but I can't say I'd buy another even if it was half what I paid for this one.
