I have 3 set up in my house with 3 Sharp Plasma Clusters. I'm trying to get rid of 2 IQAir health pro compacts that are just too loud and the pre-filter costs too much to replace every 6 mo. I didn't own the legacy Winix 5300, but from what I can tell this is pretty much the same thing with a smaller footprint, and to me, a more attractive minimalist design. Should also be able to use the cheaper Fellowes AP-300PH filters. The part number in the manual is 115115, same as the legacy unit.
These things are amazing. Results from my Dylos laser particle counter were fantastic. 0 particle count at the exhaust. It generally keeps the purifier on the lowest setting in automatic. The count was 9 small particles, and 1 large one. Anything below 75 is excellent, and below 300 is good. The Sharps + IQAir on full blast would get pretty low, but not that low and you couldn't stand to be in the house. After living with the units for a week, they do need to be kicked up manually periodically as the sensor is not triggering on dust. I do it when we leave the house.
I don't have a way to see how it does with VOC's, so I can't say how it holds up to a full size IQAir with a V5 odor and gas cell, but I'm not going to miss my IQAir compact that doesn't have that capability what so ever. The fan in the dylos is louder than the Winix on its lowest setting.
