I wanted some vintage-look rugs for my French country kitchen that weren't going to kill my wallet (seeing that kitchen rugs get exceptionally stained and dirty in a high traffic home with boys and a Doberman). I bought this rug to sit in front of my oven in my kitchen. It looks fantastic. It's definitely black and gray, and the "worn look" pattern in it is perfect. It is beautiful to look at, and the quality is decent, considering the price tag. I bought 2 more in a slightly larger size to round out the kitchen, one between the sink and the island, and one in front of the rear French doors. I like them very much.
