I've had this scanner for 3 years and it's performed beautifully, mostly working with old 35mm slides. However, the last couple batches of images started having streaks in them and getting worse all the time. I combed the troubleshooting pages and went on line looking for help with no results. I uninstalled the unit and started thinking about a new one. Three months later I decided to give it one more try. Reinstalled everything and scanned a couple of slides.. Still streaks. Back to the online help pages. FINALLY I found one little sentence saying to clean the glass table (which I had done 100 times) AND the transparency window unit in the lid. All I had to do was clean that with a damp cloth and EUREKA! no more streaks. That one little sentence at the very bottom of the maintenance page did it and that's the only place I found it mentioned. This needs to be in the Q and A section, but it's not. If you are having the same problem, give it a try.
This is the perfect printer for my needs. One of my hobbies is stamp collecting, and I create specialized album pages for myself and others, and I often use pages up to 11" x 17". This machines handles them very nicely, especially since the straight-through paper path does not choke on heavy stock. The PrintCD feature is almost essential to me for many purposes, and is superior to any alternative, since many CD drives jam on paper labels. The icing on the cake is the wireless feature, since the unit is too large to fit on my desk with other equipment. I really like the high resolution of the images at large sizes. Another plus for me is that it uses the same ink cartridges my other large format printer uses, saving money on spares. The set-up was fast and simple, too. I love it.
Once hooked up and installed it works great. It is a little confusing whether you are scanning, producing a pdf or doing something else. Finally, I found that if I pressed the pdf button on the front of the scanner, the software presented me with all the options I needed. The first thing you have to find is the file location where the scanner is going to place your document, that is on another screen...once you set that up, you are good to go...clicking on the scan button makes a page, clicking on it again makes another one, and clicking finish, forms all of the scanned pages into a single pdf document. That is nice...but a little hard to find.
I use the 5126 labels to print shipping labels on a Brother HL-L234ODW laser printer. I only print one label at a time, so only half of the sheet is printed with each print job, and it may be a day or two before the other side is used. I re-insert the half-used page, turning it around for the next print job, but whenever I try to print on the other half the page ends up being smeared upon output. This is frustrating as I am basically trashing half of the labels simply because I don't print a full page with each job. Any ideas how this can be fixed?
