There are a lot of online comparisons and youtube videos. You should look at some of them before deciding. This machine is easy to use right out of the box. Little to no instructions are necessary. You can easily manipulate the images, which I read is not something Cricut is known for. You can import your own, too, which is why I chose this. I have a Cricut Expression and hated it from day 1. I am very happy with this machine.

I wouldn't buy this machine if it turnedt out dollars I could spend. I sent back this machine and should never have bought it in the first place. They do not understand customer service. If you mess up and want help? Don't bother them. If you want a machine that works properly, save your money or go to Cricut. I am not alone on this ...if you want real people with unbiased opinion...go to Google and type in pros and cons of this company.

The maximum width of material you can cut with this machine is 12" which translates to a practical width of maybe 11.75" but in the other direction you're pretty much unlimited if you buy long rolls of heat transfer material - it will cut up to 10 ft of material.

I found the following information, i hope it helps. There has actually been independent testing done on the Silhouette Cameo vs the Cricut Explore. You can view the strength test online. Here is a quick summary of the results: Material Silhouette Cameo Cricut Explore Foam Failed Pass Cork Failed Pass Leather, soft. Failed Pass Leather, hard Failed Pass Chipboard Failed Pass Chipboard, dense Failed Pass Magnet sheet Failed Pass Aluminum Failed Pass It should be noted that the Silhouette Cameo can cut some of these materials, but not at the thickness that was tested. For example, you can cut magnet using the Silhouette Cameo, but you need to use Silhouette’s magnetic paper.

I have owned a 1st gen Cameo, a Cameo2, and now a Cameo3 as well as a Cricut. I have cut chipboard with all three models of the Cameo on many occasions without any issue. In fact, the new Cameo3 has increased clearance over the two previous models which allows for thicker media and the use of their deep cut blade! Additionally I have used the Cameo 3 to cut fun foam, leather, clay, and even etch metal, and love the results! This machine is a blast!

No, the Designer Edition Software is not part of this bundle. It does include a $* download card. That being said, you can easily create custom designs with Silhouette Studio! There are over 90K shapes available in the Silhouette design store and they can be completely altered to your hearts desire! Don't find what you want in the store? No worries! You can also use any image or clip art, photograph, or font that you have on your computer! Additionally, you can use the studio tools to create a design from scratch! You can upgrade to designer edition, designer +, or business edition which include extra tools for advanced design, rhinestone, embroidery, and small business applications! It is truly addicting!
