"I am being told that you can cut using a 12x24 mat and vinyl or whatever media you choose with this machine but that you cannot scan with it. Does anyone have experience with this? I am thinking the max is 12 x 12"

Love this machine I'm only scratching the surface of what this machine can do, but I'm enjoying it already! There is a learning curve, but there are a lot of great tutorials on YouTube. I have cut vinyl for ornaments, fabric for an applique and small project, and paper for other crafts. The on-line program allowed me to cut the images I wanted without needing a specific die.

Super Fast Delivery on a Very Nice Product I received my order within two days of order it. It came in perfect condition, very well packed from Brother, as are all of their products! I have not used it extensively but what I have used it for it has performed great. I look forward to helping my grandkids with craft projects and also myself with cutting out quilt designs that I put into the machine or pick one that it has already downloaded into it. It is fully loaded! It is pretty much self explanatory but if you need help the instructions are fairly decent. I do believe I will be enjoying this for quite a long while.

If you go to the Brother site for the ScanNCut it says that you can cut up to 12x24 inches but only scan up to 12x12 inches. You need one of the machines I believe like the 900 to scan 12x24.

What the machine does is lets you make a pattern to put them on. You have to either iron them on or heat press them or use the little rhinestone heat gun to put them on one at a time.

no it can't apply rhinestones, all it does it scans and cuts, also it's not to good, cause the standard mat that comes with it, you use it a couple of times and it doesn't stick anymore,, otherwise regarding cut and scan it is good, and the mat it's not cheap to buy another one

I have had great success with heat press vinyl iron on for tshirts. I just ordered reg press on vinyl to use, so i dont have personal experience with press on vinyl, but yes it will cut it nicely. I have seen it online a ton.

I don't know about the clip art or word docs because the files have to be in a certain format for the ScanNCut to see them. There may be a program that converts them (there's a group on Facebook where you can ask about this called "ScanNCut, Canvas and SCAL help"). As for your XP computer, unless you're able to install a version of IE that's higher than 10, then no, your computer will not work. The problem is with the Brother website where you access Canvas (the online program that's free and for use with all versions of ScanNCut) won't load with the older versions of IE. I had this same issue with an older laptop that was running Vista. And Vista wouldn't let me install a newer version of IE. So the oldest version of Windows you can use is 7.

The scan and cut feature did not work well for me, so I returned it. the machine worked well with the images that were already in the machine. I tried all three brands and the scan and cut features did not work for me. I decided to keep the silhouette portrait.

I haven't personally cut wood with my machine yet, but remember watching some * tutorials on how to cut wood veneer sheets when I first bought my machine. Some of the tips I remember seeing in the videos included; use painters tape to keep veneer sheets attached to the mat, keep the veneer sheets as long as possible, adjust your cutting blade and maybe the pressure. You might want to check out some of the videos to get a better idea on how to cut wood, but the machine certainly has the capability to do it.
