hazel I bought an expensive, fancy sewing machine that even is supposedly self-threading, but I never figured out how to use it. I ordered this Brother so that I could make a straight stitch. It is perfect. It has a strong motor, zigzags, buttonholes, etc--everything an 87-year-old woman needs. It is light. It is inexpensive. I enthusiastically recommend it unless you need all those extras.
