I am a long time +8yrs CPAP user and I also sleep on my stomach rather than on my back or side. I use a Full Face mask as well which means that I have to sleep with the mask hanging over the edge of the pillow with the rest of my head supported by the pillow. I have been using the older version of this pillow for some time and I liked it. Giving this newer bigger pillow a try out.
The package arrived with a pillow casing with a quilted cover with a zipper on one side, the long side instead of the end like the other model, a mixed back of Buckwheat Hulls and foam pieces and an instruction sheet.
The instructions suggested filling the pillow with between 1/4 to 3/4. I decided to fill it up about 3/4's full.
I used a plastic Solo cup to move the contents from the bag to the pillow. It is very light, but unlike shipping peanuts, not really sticking to things. So it was fairly easy to move, though each cup full felt like I was moving air.
After filling it up to where I wanted it, I zipped it close and then just to make sure it stayed zipped, I used a safety pin through the hole in the zipper to the pillow so it won't open on its own. I also put the pillow into a pillow case.
Somethings about the pillow:
NOISE, Not really an issue. The mixture of Buckwheat Hulls with pieces of foam in it keeps the it from making much noise while it is moving around. However, once you have molded to the shape you want and start to sleep on it, it really doesn't move much and if you are using Cpap would pretty much prevent you from hearing anything.
SMELL, I didn't notice any real smell from the pillow or the contents.
HEAT, I live in a fairly hot area (Phoenix Metro area) and as like with the previous version of the pillow, it doesn't really heat up and stays fairly cool.
SLEEPING WITH THE PILLOW. Basically, I treated it like I did with my original pillow, lying on my stomach, I just circled it with my arms and molded it into a little mound where I could put my head facing on either side with the mask overhanging the pillow. This allowed me to sleep without getting mask leaks and be able to shift my head from one side to the other without really having to keep molding it over and over. The pillow once molded into the blob that I wanted pretty much stayed there and provided a good solid but no hard sleeping surface.
I have now used it for around 3 nights and a couple daily naps with GREAT SUCCESS and WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PILLOW TO ANYONE WHO USES CPAP.
