Yard Organization Tips to Try This Spring

When the weather warms and the frost is gone, it brings sunny days, a bit of rain, and-let's face it-a mushy, brown lawn. When you're ready to rake up those leaves, turn that soil, and greet spring with a backyard as fresh as the air, you're bound to need some tips to keep you organized. From storing heavy equipment to corralling basketballs and jump ropes, we have exactly what you need for your outdoor space to stay picture perfect and clutter-free.

Storage Sheds

This might be given, but a shed is an ideal place for storing your large yard equipment. You could have a garage, but if you use that space to store your cars or as a workshop, a garden shed is an easy storage solution for protecting lawnmowers, tillers, rakes, and other large equipment from the elements. If you cringe at the thought of building a shed from scratch, worry not! Whether wood, metal, or plastic, most sheds can be bought pre-made. All you have to do is choose a spot in your yard and assemble.

Firewood Rack

If you're lucky enough to have a wood-burning fireplace, and always stock up on wood in the winter months, heavy-duty fire rack is a must. Keeping your firewood off the ground and covered prevents your firewood from molding and decomposing. Consider purchasing a tarp or even a firewood rack with a built-in covering to keep your kindling out of the rain.

Garden Hose Organization

The days of retractable garden hose organizers are gone and have been replaced by more decorative, subtle ways of keeping things in order. Choose baskets or bins that allow your garden hose to be part of your yard decor while keeping the hose tangle-free.

Keep Small Tools Tidy

Rethink the way you organize small garden tools. Use a garden caddy with dividers for simple carrying while you care for your plants. Everything from seed packets and hand rakes to trimmers and gloves fit snugly in these pockets, that making it simple to store those little things that get lost during prime gardening time. Try hanging the organizer in your garden shed or in a mudroom.

Vertical Garden

If gardening is your passion, but you want to protect herbs, flowers, veggies, and other plants from the chaos of pets and kids, consider a vertical garden. Even with a raised garden bed, you run the risk of pets chewing on your plants, or small kids climbing into the beds. Vertical gardens restyle backyard gardening by creating a unique, terraced look while still providing a healthy growing environment. Some vertical gardens can even be moved around, allowing you to keep your plants in or out of the sun, depending on their needs.

Storage Rack

When the weather is so nice, it can be a little difficult to keep the outdoors and indoors separate. Mud gets tracked through the halls, soccer balls end up in the living room, and dirty shoes abound. Keep the indoors tidy with a storage rack to hold all the things that should stay outside. A rack with shelves and bins provides spaces to put muddy shoes, nooks for jump ropes and sidewalk chalk, and shelves for everything else in between.

Storage Bench

A sturdy storage bench is you secret weapon when it comes to organizing your backyard. It adds some extra seating that comes in handy for pool parties, barbecues, or afternoons enjoying the fresh air. But the storage bench's secret is-you guessed it-storage. Just lift up the seat of your storage bench to discreetly stow away pool towels, extension chords, or even a toolbox.
