How to Clean a Barstool

  • Laundry detergent

The right kind of barstools will give your kitchen or dining room a classy update. A metallic or leather barstool instantly upgrades the look of any room. Because there are so many diverse kinds of barstools, you need to be careful when it comes time to clean them. Some barstool material comes clean with just water and soap while other materials require a special kind of cleaner. Make sure you know what kind of cleaner to use on your barstools before you clean them. Keep reading for more information about how to clean a barstool.

Cleaning Barstools:

  1. Leather barstools. It's easy to keep leather looking new; however, using the wrong kind of cleaner will put all your hard work to waste. Never use straight water to clean your leather bar stool because water will ruin the leather fabric. Instead, use leather cleaner and follow the directions on the back of the package. Following the directions will make sure that your leather bar stools last for many years and that they will continue to look amazing in your dining room.

  2. Wooden barstools. Just like any other wooden furniture, wooden bar stools are fairly easy to keep clean. Make sure you dust your wooden bar stools on a regular basis. This keeps dirt and grime from becoming ground into the wood grain. To help remove any sticky spots that have occurred over time, just use some mild soap, warm water and a soft rag to wipe them off.

  3. Plastic barstools. These are the easiest bar stools to take care of. Most spots will quickly wash off with warm water and mild soap. Avoid using anything with a rough edge, like a stainless steel pot scrubber, when cleaning your plastic barstools. The metal can cause scratches and gouges in the soft plastic. Use a soft cloth for both cleaning and drying.

  4. Metal barstools. Metallic barstools often are sturdier than other barstools, which means they can withstand a little tougher cleaning process. Water and mild soap will take care of many spots. If your painted metal barstools have rusted in places, just take some fine-grade steel wool, sand down all the rough spots and repaint it. Your bar furniture will look as good as new.

  5. Upholstered barstools. Upholstered material will quickly soak in stains, so be sure to treat any spot as soon as possible. Try a pre-treatment on the spot if it is stubborn. Using a mixture of water and laundry detergent, dab at the spot, let the treatment soak into the fibers and follow any specific directions found on the laundry detergent box. Allow bar stools, and other upholstered dining room furniture, to dry thoroughly before using it again.
