The black top is 55 inches across and is smooth and glossy with dark gray striations throughout (like marble) the inlay colors range from dark tan to dark brown with speckled black (reminds me of granite). It is as elegant as I had hoped for and looks more expensive then it was. The cabinet has a flat finish and is not shiny/glossy with mid oak color to medium brown/chestnut, colors are very close to picture but definitely not darker. The veneer pattern on doors and sides are more angled on the piece (like lined up arrow head points) and NOT the same as the pattern pictured. The doors and drawers align perfectly, are more narrow then hoped, and have antique brass/very dark gold hardware in a flat finish with intricate detailed flowers. This piece can go into any room of the house... entry, bedroom, kitchen, dining room, it's very nice looking. I do not think it will stand up to high traffic use from children, but definitely will hold up to occasional use for a very long time.
