We bought 2 sets for my 8 year old. On opening they are super light and have a great hand feel. They fit adult size hands well without being too large for kids to hold. The vest component was equally as nice. The straps are out of webbing that seems on the cheaper side and have minimal adjustment abilities. But they stay on when moving around and that is what matters most. The blaster takes 2 AA batteries and the vest component takes 3 AA. In total 5 AA batteries per player. My husband's complaint was that the battery cover screws on. Difficult to change out the batteries. However, the cover isn't going to just open while playing either. We played for 30 minutes the first time out and everything still seemed like it was more than fine on battery levels. The range from blaster to vest component was surprisingly good. We had several confirmed "hits" (lights, sound and vibration let you know that there has been a hit) from 20-30 feet apart. The laser seems to be nice and strong as you don't have to be facing your opponent directly on to get a hit. The blasters have 6 shots for every pump and the vest component takes a 1-2-3 game over hit score. As you make a hit a light on the side of the triangle goes dark so that you can see how many hits each player has left before they are "out". There is no cord to connect the blaster to the vest, which is great for both play and putting things away. Everything is compact, but not overly small. Keep in mind this is not like the super heavy, multi targeted sets that you use when you go to a dedicated laser tag facility. But it does blow the other hand held, sensor only on the blaster sets away if you are looking for something closer to paint ball, magnitag, or traditional laser tag. Now the reason for the stars... Of the four blasters, one lasted maybe 20 minutes before the reloading mechanism doesn't want to work. What we could figure out was that if you turned the entire blaster off and then back on after each of the 6 shot rounds you could reload the blaster. This got to be tedious, frustrating and more than a bit much for the 8 year old. The adults fared better for patience, but seriously, we expected better. There was no roughness of play or dropping of the blaster. Nothing to explain why it just stopped working properly pretty much out of the box. 25% odds at having the brand new item you just purchased not work isn't very good. So while I can't recommend it. I don't want to trash the set either. Just be forewarned. As far as sets like these go, they are by far the only thing at this price-point like this. Again, no excuse for that sort of quality control error. But something to keep in mind. We will be contacting the manufacturer after the holiday to see what can be done. One last thing to note. There is no volume control. They are loud. And bright too by the way. Great for outside. You can see and hear them just fine. Inside I was good for the 5 minutes it took for everyone to get their shoes and component vests on before the noise became too much. I'm pretty confident you could hear them just fine over a vacuum cleaner to give you an idea of decibels.
