Once this light is up you'll forget about the process of assembling/ installing it! It's absolutely stunning, and photos here don't do it enough justice! We read the reviews carefully before purchasing, and they were right- there are a few fiddly things you need to do to make the chandelier installation go smoothly. Here are my tips: -I discovered a way to deal with the black electric cord: silver model paint. Get a little brush and vial of Testor or other model paint at your local craft store. A LOT easier and cheaper than replacing it yourself or paying someone else to! Wait until AFTER installation and the cord is woven through the chain. Since the cord is bendable, the paint will flake off if you move it around. Carefully paint the exposed black areas. Voila! -The mounting cup is smaller than most US light electrical boxes. No biggie. Get a ceiling light medallion at your local big box home store. Painters caulk will stick the medallion to the ceiling nicely. I did this myself and completed the installation (after getting the above items) in less than 2 hours. The most time consuming part was attaching all the glass crystals and beads- but even that was kinda fun. You won't regret any of these detours above once you are looking at this amazing chandelier! Good luck.
This is an absolutely beautiful chandelier...BUT....if you purchase this, BEWARE!! I got the chandelier assembled at 11pm before my electrician came at 8am the next day. All the packaging was great and protected the crystals perfectly. Everything looked great prior to install. However, when my electician arrived, he could not install the chandelier. The problems are as follows: 1. The cord for hanging the chandelier is black, not silver, making it UGLY, so it needs to be REWIRED! 2. The chain and cord are way shorter than advertised. 3. The chain is fairly flimsy. 4. MOST IMPORTANTLY, this chandelier is "European" electrically, meaning that the canopy for the light box needs to be Americanized so it can even be hung at all. It has NO brackets to secure it to the ceiling. So, now I have to get the chandelier rewired at a lighting store with 25 foot silver lamp cord instead of the black, buy a new, sturdy longer chain, and get an American canopy and bracket set so the chandelier can be hung and installed. WHAT A PAIN!!!! I have no idea how much MORE this will cost me. Please be advised that this chandelier is high maintenance!!
I love this classic drum shade chandelier. It looks so elegant in my dining room with just the right amount of crystals. Provides soft lighting.
Ok this is the story--beautiful chandelier, shipped quickly and well packaged without damage. Shade intact, white but ivory when the light is on with a slight shimmer. I have looked at this light for about 3 months and read all the reviews many times. It is true the light comes with a black electrical cord which is ridiculous considering it should be silver or clear. But no worry--some people paint with craft paint but since the light was wrapped so well in plastic, I hung it on our swingset and bought Rustoleum spray paint in a nickel color and it matched up beautifully with the fixture to paint just the black cord. The fixture is a brushed silver, definately not chrome but the chain is more chrome looking. Problem with the ceiling plate as others said--it is a tad too small for standard American boxes. Again, no worry since I had the ceiling plate from the light coming down so I used that again spraying with the spray paint. LIght assembled without too many bad words by my husband and went up without problems. We elected to shorten the large ball hanging off the bottom since I have 8 ft ceilings and really thought the bottom of the fixture, not the crystals should be about 30 in off the table. Much higher in my room and it would look like it was too close to the ceiling. So what I have is a lovely expensive looking chandelier until you get on top of it and then you see it is not top quality but for me it's great since I was going for some bling with the big drum shade and don't plan on being in this house much longer. I think it will be impressive come re-sale and look stunning for Christmas parties and dinners. Sorry this is so long but bottom line is if you really like the combination of crystal with the modern look of drum shade, just buy it, it looks great when lit--make sure you have a dimmer and be thankful you didn't have to pay a ton for it. It changed up the mood of my very traditional dining room and I look forward to dressing the room for Christmas.
Great Chandelier, contemporary and classic at the same time. Looks great over dinning room table, not too big or small. Color of the shade is white, not ivory or cream as pictured. It is still beautiful light though, love all the crystals!! Great quality for the money too!
This is absolutely gorgeous. I love the shade and the crystals. It puts out a great deal of light and I use it with a dimmer, as well. The only negative would be that the faux candles inside are a silver colored plastic and even have silver faux "drip" marks on the side, which isn't realistic and would have been better left plain. It wan't hard to put together and it came boxed well with no damage at all. The part that screws to the ceiling plate is just a hair too small. I read the other reviews and was anticipating this so my husband installed it over a pretty decorative ceiling tile, which helped. Also, because of the reviews, we also knew that the actual electric cord wasn't silver. My husband replaced that with a silver cord and it isn't noticeable at all now. I am extremely happy with this purchase and i think the quality matches the price.
I was hesitant to order this fixture for over a year due to the problems outlined in the other reviews. However, I couldn’t resist! It took about a week to come in which seemed like a reasonable amount of time. The parts were packaged very well and nothing was out of place in the box. The wire is clear and the chain to hang it on was more of a chrome than a brushed or satin finish like the actual fixture but you don’t notice it while it’s hanging. The shade is soft white which makes it appear more expensive looking. I did not use the provided ceiling cover because as others pointed out it was too small. I used the cover from my previous fixture and it worked out well. Nothing needed to be done in terms of grounding or rewiring as I saw others needed to do. My electrician explained how the grounding works with my “metal box” and said it was all set. It took my electrician about five or ten minutes to get it hung up. In terms of assembly, most of the crystals were already installed on the fixture and were individually wrapped with bubble wrap. Several crystals fell off while I was unwrapping them. I noticed that the hooks they were held on with were very flimsy and once they were opened they did not go back into shape. As a result, the crystals continued to fall off. I was missing 3 crystals and have contacted Great Offer Stock Support to correct and was told I should hear back in a day or so. Overall the fixture is really nice. I didn't give the product all five stars because I felt the crystals could have been put on better hangers/hooks and the instructions could have been clearer to make the beaded crystals easier to figure out. Overall its very pretty and looks great hanging up.
Installed this in the same bedroom as two INSPIRE Q Quinn Crystal Mercury Base 2-Light Accent Table Lamp for bedside lamps. This chandelier is large and beautiful. I believe some folks mentioned difficulty with installing it, but the contractor had no issue with it whatsoever. It is a statement in the space. I highly recommend it.
I can’t tell you enough how much I love My Silver Mist Hanging Crystal Drum Chandelier! In fact that has been my biggest compliment when friends come to visit. My husband said it was fairly easy to install with all the parts included.
This is a beautiful and elegant chandelier. I have it in my master bedroom sitting area and it is very pretty and classic that has a modern update with the drum shade.
Nice product BUT before you hire your electrician PLEASE get the shopping list done...it does NOT fit American standard electrical boxes. I hired an electrician to install and he had to run up to HOME DEPOT for the fitting around the electrical opening and the actual brackets to hang the fixture. It is beautiful but buyer beware! This simple job cost me as much as the chandelier to have installed!
I really love this light. The pewter and crystals add a touch of elegance, while the faux silk shade lends to a casual feel. They complement each other and my room beautifully. It is exactly as described in the add, and best yet is it didn’t break the bank.
This is a pretty spectacular chandelier. I wanted something a little decadent for my master bedroom. I was going to get an all-crystal chandelier, but most of them looked too much like they belonged in the dining room only. The drum shade on this one seemed a bit more like a bedroom fixture, and it tones down the crystal just enough. The room is fairly large - 14 x 18 - with a 14' vaulted ceiling, so I needed something that would occupy some space, and this is just perfect. I wasn't sure I'd like the crystals hanging down from inside the shade, but the effect is just beautiful. I think it looks even nicer than in the website photo. I didn't give it 5 stars because the quality is just ok. The canopy is ridiculously flimsy (feels like tin) and pretty small for a fixture this large - it just barely covers a 4" junction box, there are a few (very) minor imperfections in the bulb holders, it might have been missing a part - my electrician didn't see what the bracket was supposed to mount to, but he had something else he was able to use. I couldn't tell, because there was no list of included parts, and the "instructions" were laughable. One page with a diagram and many letters of the alphabet that are supposed to get together - it was very hard to see what was going where. It's easier to ignore the sheet and use common sense.
This light fixture is just lovely and the perfect accent for my dining area. I love the soft glow of the shade and the glimmer of all the crystals. It is the perfect blend of design styles and works great with my transitional interior. When the sunlight hits the crystals rainbows reflect all over the room. Cant beet the price, I shopped for months before saving hundreds on this classy chandelier.
I read all the reviews and wasn't sure what to expect...my chandelier came with the silver cord, not the black one people were complaining about. I had hired an electrician to hard-wire it and it took him about 30 minutes. He did need an extra bracket due to the European ones that were sent, but he had one in his toolbox. We also used a mount plate from an old chandelier in the house, the one they send IS TOO SMALL by about an inch. You will need a 4 inch one. It is a large chandelier and the crystals are very pretty. The shade is white, not ivory. Mine came pre-assembled besides the strings, which I put on. And there was a missing crystal that Great Offer Stock replaced. It definitely looks more expensive that XXX.XX and my husband likes it because it's got a modern touch with the drum shade, not too girly. I can imagine this would have been a nightmare if I had not had someone who knew how to install it, so in my mind, it was worth the XX bucks to hire it out:)
Great light fixture for any room. Very easy to put together. It is a design that will stay in style fir quite some time. Gives off nice amount of light. I did add a dimmer to the bedroom and that looks nice too.
Beautiful drum shade light fixture. You are going to love it. Looks great in my space. It will work well with many design styles. This will need to be hardwired and installed by a pro.
Not impressed with this light fixture. I like the overall look and style of the light but it is very cheap quality. You get what you pay for. This fixture didn’t include any real way to attach it to the ceiling, had no grounding wire... it ended up causing my husband to improvise as well as several trips to the hardware store just to get parts that should have been included in this but aren’t- it’s not that they are missing, the manufacturer just doesn’t see the need for having a way to mount this light to the ceiling I guess. Almost all of the crystals are chipped, the strands of “crystals” are plastic beads on fishing line. The crystals hang from the fixture from very flimsy wire- a paper clip would be considered heavy duty compared to the flimsy wire included in this light. Also, we’re no strangers to swapping out light fixtures- this light fixture was literally the 22nd we’ve changed in our home and it has by far been the worst. There was lots of swearing involved with getting this fixture mounted... after all the grief I had caused my husband I figured I had passed the point of no return and couldn’t tell him I didn’t want to keep it, plus I had already thrown the box out. It has the general aesthetic that I was looking for, just don’t look closely at the details! I have this light hanging in my home office- if I had purchased it for a dining room or kitchen table this for sure would not have been high enough quality for me to keep.
This chandelier made our dining room look like a million bucks. We have a grey/white color scheme between walls, trim and crown molding... with some rustic elements/decor, and this chandelier adds just enough "bam" to tie everything together with it's simple elegance. I read past reviews which indicated the cord was black - this is not the case anymore (I believe it is silver or clear as it blends it 100%). My husband did 100% of the installation. Each beaded piece must be put on individually. A pain, I know, but worth it in the end as it looks amazing. The plate was not large enough to cover the previous hole in the ceiling, so my husband purchase a larger white ceramic plate from Home Depot for like $15-$20. The plate he purchased looks like a donut - in that it has a big hole in the center that the current plate on the chandelier fits into perfectly. This was the only "hassle" with installation - but honestly I like the way it looks with a larger white designed ceramic plate over the metal plate. If you're on the fence with this purchase - it's highly recommended! You will not be disappointed!
First review ever written. Package arrived in a timely manner, ordered on 1/27/12 and was received on 2/6/12 via UPS. Finally opened the box and assembled the chandelier and I LOVE IT for my stylish office. Assembly took about 20 minutes. Installation will commence once the electrician arrives and I'm so excited. WORD OF ADVICE: During assembly, the package is protected with a lot of bubble wrap and plastic wrappings, have a pair of scissors handy and view the chandelier picture on your screen because the instructions is no help. It's printed on a sheet of paper with faded writings and all I saw was jibberish. Actually, instructions aren't even needed...everything is pretty explanatory when you take it out of the box if you're handy. When cutting the protective bubble wrap, make sure to check the wrappings before tossing it in the trash. The crystal beads or metal rings could be stuck in it and you don't want any missing pieces. (No extra pieces are included.) When the chandelier was taken out, some of the crystal beads were already attached, but fell easily as it was held by a weak metal ring a 5 yr old could bend. Other crystal beads need to be set and that's also pretty easy as long as you have the picture handy. The only thing I disliked about this item was that the electrical wire is black and can be seen from the chandelier to the ceiling. I'm considering painting it over. All in all, this chandelier is nice for the money. Only gave it 4 stars because of the electrical wire being black. You would think a chandelier maker would know to keep cords clear, gray (to match the metal extension rings), or white....
