The compost bin looks good in my yard, is easy to use. We are going to put hinges on the top, but other than that seems to be well made.

  • Look great when new, ages fast!

Unfortunately, the wood deteriorates quite fast. It does not look as nice as it did when first put together. Additionally, squirrels chewed through the cedar so there are holes in the wood now. The lid is a nice feature but would be better if it was hinged.

The bin is quite as described. It's cover is poorly assembled with screws that are too short to hold the slata in place.

  • Cheaply made, but not all that ugly

The wood appears to be of better quality than it really is in the photo. Up close you'll find its a very soft wood, likely pine, that has been stained orange to look more like a hardwood. In person, the orange is a bit garish. Still, the fact that it's made of actual wood and has a simple design means it looks better than pretty much any thing else available. It beats staring at a miserable lumpy black plastic barrel. It started to fall apart the first week it was out in the yard because it's put together with screws that only go about 1/8 inch into the wood. On the up side, this means, unlike a lot of inexpensive furniture, that you don't have to see all the ugly screws. The downside is that you will need to add your own ugly screws that actually go all the way through each slat as they start to fall off one by one. Still, it could be worse. This product would be fairly priced at around $60, about half what it cost here when I purchased it.

  • Fully functional and great looking, too.

This compost bin is exactly the same as offered at other stores for less money, especially with free shipping. They are lightweight, easy to assemble and look great in your garden compared to the big black plastic ones. They also WORK, letting air circulate and allowing enough rain through the slots to heat the compost for a fast breakdown process.

  • Stronger than it looks.

This compost bin was easy to assemble and it's more sturdy than it appears in the picture. I have a very heavy pot of flowers on top of it and the lid can take it. The lift door makes this a snap to access the compost. Since it is slatted and the air can get to it I have not noticed any smell at all. I have it in a wooded area though ,not next to the house. I think it looks so much nicer than a plastic bin.

  • Looks great!

Overall, I really like the look of the compost bin. It goes great in my backyard. I've started composting for the past month, so I can't attest to the functionality of it, but so far so good. It lets in air nicely and the top is high enough to not let the critters in (which is unhinged, so it's basically just a cover). Assembly was pretty easy. It was actually my first item that I put together with a tool gun. You just have to make sure to read the instructions; screw in the correct posts to the right frames (if not, you'll be unscrewing it and redoing everything which I did). Overall, it took me 30 minutes to put together. The only negative was that I thought it was a little expensive for a compost bin, but you pay for the nice look of it I guess.
