This is a solid mattress, I mean, literally. It's solid. Very firm, indeed! Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, since we do like firm sleeping surfaces, but this was even a bit firmer than we had expected (though I'd rather a mattress be too firm than too soft). For the guest bed, though, it's definitely not a problem, and I am completely satisfied with our purchase, given the price and convenience of free shipping to my door! I bought a mattress topper for the mattress, which helps, though perhaps given the opportunity to repurchase, I might go for the firm mattress with pillowtop. *

I came to know about the bed in the box from Safavieh after purchasing one of their headboards, which I love. The mattress facilitates a good night's rest. The mattress is firm, but comfortable - it is not hard at all. Prefences for firmness vary, but it is a well made and very comfortable mattress. I always top my mattress with a memory foam topper and this made it even more comfortable. Definitely worth the money and very convenient in the way it is packaged and delivered.

The coils make the difference - as compared to my previous mattress that also arrived in a similar box - this mattress does not inflate in a matter of hours. It springs open like a Jack in the Box when you cut the plastic wrapping, so be careful. Skip the box-springs and go platform! I've spent hundreds of dollars more in traditional mattress stores - never again. Save your money - this will do the trick.
