1.34" 1-1/3" - it has some plastic adjustment rings. I purchased a standard cast iron base and it fits perfectly. But as with all umbrellas...with wind they will fall over if not supported adequately...and they will break if they fall over...even the really expensive ones will. In fact, I've seen a really expensive one take off and fly off and land in the roadway below. Mine is on a rooftop deck - so it will not be left open when windy and never when we are not on the deck to watch it.

I used a regular weight base that you use under a table and it flew out twice. Two days ago, it broke in a storm. Not the most sturdy item. I need to buy another one and will ensure I don't leave it open if there is any wind.
