I hate making big purchases online, but that's where we're headed, unfortunately. I didn't have the luxury of seeing this set in person, and buying sight-unseen is generally something I have learned no to do. I was in a bind for a gift, and had to make a somewhat blind decision on the spot.
The reviews were great overall, but naturally, there were a few that completely dogged the product, assembly, etc. Perhaps minions sent out by competitors? Seems that way. Hey, it's possible that someone received a faulty or flawed piece, what do I know? Long story short, even the boxes these things come in are good quality. It came in a timely manner and unscathed in 7 big boxes. Everything is packaged efficiently and carefully and with pride, which is always an encouraging sign (*** products). Assembly was stupid easy (though I could imagine how a flawed piece from the factory could cause alignment grief). The instructions leave some to be desired; the grammar is poor, and the images (and hardware locations) are really tiny and tough to make out at times. But assembly took 25 minutes, from the time I opened the box to the time I sat in the chair. That includes the recommended re-torquing of the Allen head screws after sitting in the chair and any shifting/settling/leveling takes place. Aesthetically, it looks exactly as represented in the picture. As far as comfort, the seat cushions are a tad stiff, but they have a decent feel, pretty good quality, nice shape. The seat panel is very deep, and that's coming from a 6'2" guy. The back is low by design, so that combination felt a little odd at first, but not uncomfortable. The seat is also very wide (between armrests); lots of elbow room.
Although I'm hypercritical about most products, I've been absolutely pleased by everything about this set. I'd love to have seen them come with 6" cushions (and a darker tan in color, personal pref). I've read about the PE wicker on outdoor furniture dry rotting. I have the same chairs from about 5 years ago that are like new. Keep them covered or put away when you're not using them. UV will murder anything plastic, as it dries out the oils and breaks down the compounds. I'm looking into a vinyl protectant that maybe I can use to prolong the life (maybe something like ***). If you leave the cushions out in the weather, they'll look pretty bad pretty fast, at least if you live anywhere like Ohio, where we can go from -20 in the winter to 100 in the summer, with every type of precipitation in between.
Buy this set with confidence. FYI, I got mine for *** .
