I can't rave enough about this bed! We bought our son a memory foam bed of the same brand several years ago and was shocked at how nice it was. It was his first bed after his toddler bed, twin size. We referred to it as the "butter bed" because it was like sleeping on a giant pad of butter.
We had bought an innerspring bed at the same time and I hated it. We dealt with it for a few years and finally had enough. It was so uncomfortable and stiff, my husband liked it but I would wake up with a sore back or neck all the time. I decided it was time for a memory foam. I did a lot of research and I refuse to spend thousands on a name brand because I know these "knock offs" are just as good. I decided on this one and it's amazing. I chose the softest one, which my husband isn't super happy about. I adore it. It's a pain in the butt only because when you try to get out of bed you kind of have to roll out because it's so soft you get sucked in a little bit. I sleep very well on it though and find often that my pillow is bothering my neck so I'll throw it on the floor and sleep directly on the bed. It's soft enough that it sucks my head in and supports my neck perfectly. It makes no sense in my head because I've never been able to do that with any bed ever. I could tolerate it for a short time and then back to the pillow but this bed, I almost prefer it to my pillow.
My only other complaint is about the "gel" and how it's cooling. It's a load of crap. There is nothing cooling about it. I actually find it absorbs my body heat and holds it in there. If you are a cold person you will love that because sometimes when I get up to pee or even just move around the spots where I've moved from feel hot, almost like a heating pad. The only other problem I have is when I sleep in bed with my husband his weight plus my weight in the bed we almost roll into each other if we are right next to each other. We are also in a queen and got the softest one, so this probably wouldn't be an issue for someone with a larger bed, if they sleep alone, or if they got a firmer one. It's not drastic but I'm a VERY unsound sleeper so it bothers me a lot. I also have a hard time sleeping because he snores and sleeps hot so overall, sleeping next to him is difficult for me anyhow so this is possibly something I wasn't really sensitive to but with the other issues became a bother.
I think if I was to buy a bed again I would stick with this just avoid the gel. Also keep in mind, finding sheets can be hard depending on how thick of a mattress you choose. We got a 12 inch which was apparently a drastic difference from our innerspring. I believe that was a 10 inch. Half of our sheets do not fit this bed. We can't get the fitted around all 4 corners. Luckily I have mostly cheap sheets so it wasn't a big deal but if you're someone who has high end expensive sheet sets, you might want to be sure they will accommodate the thickness because not all brands go very deep. My mother recently received some sheets for Christmas in King size and she has a queen size bed. I have no idea how deep her mattress is but she was surprised to see that the King fit well without having them look baggy or bulky and she said she thinks she will continue to buy King in the future because she liked how they fit so that might be another option, I haven't tried it yet. I was just disappointed because I have some snowflake sheets, a set in flannel and a set in fleece that I LOVE and the fleece being slightly stretchy fit well whereas the fleece that has no stretch wouldn't go on. I have a couple sets of cotton sheets and some would fit and others wouldn't so it really all depends.
Like most memory foam mattresses this came rolled up in a coil. We've purchased 4 memory foam mattresses so far and all but this one came rolled up in plastic with the air sucked out and then put into a box. No idea why but this one came rolled up in plastic with the air sucked out and then it was in a black fabric type back. It was very odd and the UPS man even commented he never had anything delivered in fabric like that. I was sure there would be damage but the bag was actually in excellent shape and the plastic is so thick the mattress was untouchable. BE CAREFUL YOU DO NOT CUT THE MATTRESS WHEN YOU CUT THE PLASTIC! We snipped off the edge and let it start to fill with air and then slowly ran the scissors up the side. I would recommend scissors over a box cutter so you don't slice your mattress.
It takes shape nearly immediately. We set it up midday and it was fully puffed up by bed time. I've never had an issue with them not inflating almost immediately with any memory foam bed we've bought though I've seen complaints about that and the smell. The smell is minimal and goes away within a day or two. I know this sounds weird but I like the smell of memory foam mattresses, it has a chocolate note to it to me. Most people complain and say they hate it but it's not as bad as they make it out to be. I'm sure it's not healthy to breathe it in a lot but it can't be that bad or they wouldn't be making beds out of it! We've had it 6 months and I haven't noticed any sagging or dipping. Again, I haven't had that with any of them. We are of average size so I'm not sure if that is a factor on why some peoples bed end up basically dented in permanently.
Lastly my only other complaint is that I'm not a fan of the satiny rope style thing that goes along the entire middle edge of the bed. I find it odd and pointless, they could have just sewed the seams and left it that way like the other beds we have. I think it was to make it look more fancy but I don't see the point. When you run your hands along the edge of the mattress you can feel it and if you have very fitted sheets it would probably show. I'd prefer a smooth edge to this.
Overall a GREAT bed. Like I said I'm not a fan of the gel, I feel it has the opposite affect though some swear by it for cooling. I find it absorbs heat and holds it there, which is neat on a cold winter night because if you get up to pee or get a drink your bed is toasty when you return. I'm the kind that likes cold sheets and flips my pillow often to get to the cold side so I did not like this. It's a great quality and very comfortable bed. If you're looking for a very soft bed this one is one of the softest I've ever felt and yet still supportive. If you're worried about too soft or too firm I'd suggest the middle of the road one. My kids have a different brand bed and theirs didn't have an option but I find they are too hard and you don't sink it hardly at all. You are almost laying on top of it so there definitely is a difference between the firmer ones and the softer ones!
