At first touch, I was surprised at how light weight, almost 'cheap', the unit felt. My thought was that I might get a winter out of it, which seemed too brief a lifespan for even a $$$ space heater. But it has performed quite well over the last couple of months, and I hope it indeed gives me a couple of years of service.
The packaging was beaten up, but the unit was scratch-free upon arrival. Set up took seconds, and the 'Auto' temperature setting (which caught my eye in the first place) works as advertised. The unit has two power buttons for safety: one on the base and the other with the other settings button at the top. The one on the base tempts me to tap it with my foot as I walk in or out of my apartment, but I fear a shoe could easily crack the plastic base.
As is often the case, safety runs in inverse proportion to convenience. Even turning/sliding the unit (which, by the way, never gets hot to the touch) is enough for it to shut itself off. So moving from my desk to the table across the main room of my apartment means shutting down & restarting with my preferred 'Auto' settings, even though I just wanted to slide the unit 4-5 feet. With a cat and two boys, such safety could also be a lifesaver, of course.
The heat generated is great, though filling a room with it can take a while. An unintended benefit of the unit is that it dries my laundry quickly (I dislike drying my clothes in a machine), even on cold rainy days - testament to its output. I would strongly recommend the unit, but don't be put off by its lightweight/plastic-y feel and be prepared to reset the unit each time you do more than touch it.
