Look great for the price, but . . .
I can only give these stools 3 stars, despite the fact that they look good.
First the pros: As I said, they look terrific and much more expensive than they were. My dining table is a bit higher (31") than usual (30") and I'm short, so I wanted a chair that was higher than the traditional dining room chair. So I ordered 6 of these counter-height bar stools and they fit the bill -- they have the informal look I wanted, they're attractive, very well padded and very comfortable. In addition they were very carefully wrapped, each in it's own box, and no parts were missing (often an issue with items that require assembly).
Now the cons: [1] they require assembly. Okay, I thought, no problem, I've assembled furniture before. However -- the instructions left a lot to be desired. The instructions are presented solely with photos, without text, and they are not very clear, to say the least, so assembling the first stool required a fair amount of trial and error. Even when I got it down to a science, the fastest one I assembled took 45 minutes. [2] the holes on two of the stools were not properly aligned, which required me to do some creative woodworking in order to put some of the pieces together. I'm handy but I didn't count on having to do even minor carpentry -- which brings me to the next objection. [3] the wooden legs and supports are made of a composite pressed board covered with veneer. So gauging out the inside of a leg to allow holes to align wasn't difficult -- but it showed me how cheaply the stools were made. In addition, when one of the stools was fully assembled, the back cushion did not align properly with the seat cushion so they look slightly "off." It isn't very noticeable -- you have to look for it to see it, but I would have been happier if all the parts aligned as they should.
My conclusion is that these stools look great (especially for the money) but they're not great quality. They'll be fine for my husband and me -- we're not hard on furniture and I think they'll hold up under occasional additional use by adult children and young grandchildren. But if you're looking for something that's very sturdy, well-constructed and able to stand up to heavy use, these stools might not be the answer.
