The Charlie lamp is charming -- the reference to Chaplin's hat is obvious. :) The gilded interior, however, is what sold me on it and what makes it more than just a generic lamp. The overall quality of the lamp is not high end -- the shade is very thin metal and there was even a slight dent on mine (but it's not visible in general so I'm not bothering to return it). The packaging wasn't very good. But I do like the way the lamp looks. I don't think it's terribly MCM -- more of a glam industrial sort of thing -- but it works in my eclectic MCM house.
One reviewer thought that the gold was too "orange". That's a matter of personal taste, I guess. It's definitely a rich, bold gold. But not orange, to my eyes.
Anyway, I like the lamp -- the price could be a touch better for the quality, but I guess I'm paying a bit extra for the uniqueness.
