We purchased a townhouse 9 months ago, there were no window treatments. The trim in this house is called 'Almond', not white so I didn't want to go with traditional 2 in faux wood white blinds. I purchased different styles of bamboo for 5 rooms! For the windows we hung white pull down shades for privacy and to keep out the light when needed.
This style is in my living area, 2 windows and a set of french doors that lead out to the porch. I love the brown tones in them so much.I was concerned going with brown bamboo rather than 2 in blinds they would bring the rooms *down* color wise but they look so nice with the sunlight shining in. The amount of light they let in is perfect, I have gotten so many compliments from my neighbors.
I read in the reviews these are not for complete privacy, I agree, they are not! From being outside and at my neighbors townhouse across from ours, I can't really see inside during the day but they offer no privacy at night with any lights on inside. Very glad we have the pull down shades behind them on the windows. I was going to get shears for the french doors but went with lined panels. Highly recommended, I can tell the shear curtains would not have provided much more privacy where I live.
I have always had white blinds in homes where we lived, maybe its because we moved to FL, but I love the bamboo as much as the day we put them up! I would not go back to white blinds if they were free.
My only mistake was I ordered them an inch too wide. I triple measured the openings of each window but did not notice to take into account the extra wood trim inside the window frame that is about 1 inch deep from the interior wood trim on the walls. If that makes sense. It resulted in us having to do an outside mount instead of inside like I wanted.
Big positive on that is I am sure the roll down shades would not have fit as an inside mount if these had not been mounted outside. We still have stuff in storage, I ran across a cream colored shear panel the other day, I draped it across the top of one of the bamboo shades, like a swag, it looked great, it would be perfect if I could find my other shears!
All in all, I love them, recommend them if you are wanting to try a different look, shear panels draped across the top looks so good with an outside mount. Shears can be economical, plus you can put up any length or color : ). My kids room has a bright green, found them on sale for $5 each at a department store.
